How can I tell if my shocks need to be rebuilt or not? Also who does it for a resonable price? Any info would help. Thanks. Its on a 1999 zr 700.

Usually it is when you find that it bottoms out too easy, or if the shocks just feel weak in general. One dealer I talked to wanted $125 each to rebuild my shocks. I don't know about any other dealers. I could get 4 new Gabriel RydeFx maintenence-free shocks for that price, which is what I'll probably end up doing.

General rule of thumb I go by...............
-front shocks every second season or sooner if any leaking / performance loss noted.
-rear shocks every season
You should be paying less than $50/shock if you take em off.

there is a dealer in town here in Olivia Mn that will service them for $36.00 a shock, $125.00 is rediculous!
Good rule of thumb is have them rebuilt every 1500 miles, or every season.

Remove the shock from the sled and if you can compress the shock without having to use your entire body weight then you probably need a rebuild. If it has been two seasons, or more, then you need a rebuild. $40 - 50 CDN should get you new seals, wipers, oil and gas. If you need a new cap, or rod, then those are extra on top.
