I have a 1997 sport touring 440. I am rebuilding the motor and I would like to know if I can eliminate the broken oil pump ($150.00) and broken gear ($48.00). Does the engine work and get lubricated just as well mixing the oil and fuel? Also I need a used connecting rod ($80.00 new). Has any one had luck finding bearings at bearing houses instead of the high priced shops.
thanks,
Bo

I would think mixing the oil in the gas is just as good if not better then injecting it. You know for a fact the engine will always get oil.
Just don't lend your sled to anyone and they put unmixed fuel in it.
Not sure about your other questions.

Dissconnect it and plug everything... EVERYTHING. You may want to take the pump out and put a cover on it, but it HAS to be sealed. Don't let the oil ports suck air, that'll cost you pistons.
I'm with SEXltsp on the assurance you engine will be getting what it needs. I've disconnected every one I've had
1) Too much $ to fix.
2) Too much $ to fix engine when the line gets brittle and sucks air.
I paid $50 for my trailcat with a bad piston/cylinder because the pump lines weren't cared for.

Just make sure you get the mixture right. Interesting topic.
