I could check more info, need motor size.just a good start would be .015in. gap take a dollar fold in half should have light drag in points.Less gap will retard the timing. You can check where it opens with a ohm meter or buzzer,it sparks when it opens ,I beleave if its the same as cats .If you get it running you can put timming light on it to get it right on,Smallest tweek on points will make a differance.

I now what your saying. Its tuff to explain. You put the meter on one of the wires thats going to the coil & on the ground, then it can be hard to tell whats happening it helps if the meter has a buzzer too. There should be marks to line it up on if not you have to put indicator on piston, this is what there talking in liner measure in the book.you have to do this for both points putting meter on other wire to coil. You dont want to move the stator plate it will change the stator edge gap.Let me know if this made any sense to you,I sat in front of mine along time tweeking to get it right on .

Are you sure your ignition coil is doing what it should? Even if your test is good your coil could be bad... Try making and breaking a battery connection through the primaries of your coil, remember that your plug needs the high tension and a ground to your battery...
