Just read Kim's article in Ontario Snowmobiler about February's Haliburton run. She did a great job summing up what was a great weekend. This is the positive recognition that we need in the media.

Jacqui, thanks for the flattery but writing it was the easy part. :) Thanx to all of the people like you and Jeff, and Paul Yarek who helped MAKE the story to be told. :) I look forward to writing more articles about sledders and their causes for OSM. So everyone will have to get busy this winter to give me something to write about :)

Kim, while I was reading your article & thinking about what Jeff had said a few days ago. Maybe you could write an article about how guys could convince their wives or girlfriends to get into sledding. We've all seen the wrong way to introduce them so maybe could write about how you got into the sport.

I think all of us that made it to Pinestone made for a fun weekend. I had met a few of the members before, but meeting the others was great too.

That would be good. I keep telling my wife I'll buy you a sled of your own but she says it's mostly a boys and their toys thing. She's happy for me and never complains that I ride as much as I doo but it sure would be nice to take her on a tour. She used to ride years ago but after our friends wife passed away in Cochrane she stopped riding with us and now just keeps the house warm until we get back. Maybe I can talk her into coming up in March. If she won't ride maybe she can visit with Kim at Lillabel's till we get back.

Great Story Kim !!!,

But there was no mention of your special cup cakes ! I guess this year I'll have to bring a BBQ and burn up an out door roast for the gang.

My wife got involved in our sport last season and now loves it. Even though her first ride was not exactly perfect. Took her across Georgian Bay (slowly) out of Midland at about 9:00pm at night in -30c weather en-route to my parents cottage on Present Island. She was on my spare sled (90 Safari 440). Needless to say she was a little chilly (does not have a lot of meat on her bones). While en-route to the cottage her mask froze up and she got stuck in a drift as we came up in front of the cottage. When we got into the cottage I fired up a propane heater to help get some heat going. While I was bringing our stuff in I noticed a small flame on the bottom cuff of her jacket. Had to throw her on the ground and pat it out. At first she thought I had gone mad. She had tried to warm her rear end up by pushing it up to the heater  ..Jacket did not like this idea  . Spent the night picking melted Gore-Tex out of my hand and calming my nerves w00t . The rest of the weekend went great besides having to give her my sled to ride (she does not care for the little safari) and buying her a new jacket. I have since picked her up her own newer sled that she loves, as well as proper gear and a heated visor. Now I am not speaking for all female riders but in my wifes case she does not like going for long un-interrupted rides (I save those for the guy weekends). I found the key was to have a lot of small stops planned throughout the course of the day. Such as breakfast, lunch, always toping up gas, stopping to get a snack, stop for a hot chocolate or a drink at the end of the day, going for dinner, etc. However I must say the best thing that has happened since my wife began snowmobiling is(besides spending some quality time together in a secluded cottage in the dead of winter :inlove:) ....Is that she is not left at home for an entire weekend bored with credit cards/cash and the mall only 15min away! I am sure that everyone can figure that one out...Cheers!
