: I Got My New Sled And Have Questions
MMPROX800 09-25-2004, 04:49 PM Well I sold my 2002 edge x 600 for a 2004 Pro x 800, the black silver and red sled. It is hot looking. Now will I notice much difference in power from the 600? Anybody got any pictures of these sleds with headlight covers of shock covers i wanna see what they look like? is this sled gonna be tough to ride with no studs? i was looking at the slp high flow air box conversion kit..is it worth it on this sled? does it require any jetting changes? is there any noticeable differences? how does this sled compare with the other big dogs like the F7, ZR9, Rev 800, etc... any other suggestions on what i can to do the sled for more performance or any suggestions please let me know.
docrmk 09-25-2004, 04:55 PM Nice color............
tifa_5_2000 09-25-2004, 08:00 PM youll crap yourself the first time you pull the trigger! huge difference. mike
04ProX800 09-26-2004, 07:35 PM Nice choice, I have that same excact sled. Only put 500 miles on it last year ( bought in December ) but so far I love this sled ! I did not stud it last year and no problems. I do plan on studding this season. Here is a picture of it with the Red Chrome Polaris windshield ( 11" ).
RAD RACER 38X 09-28-2004, 12:50 AM from what I hear the air boxs are choked up on the 7's and 8's and as soon as you gut them dyno numbers are showing a consistant 10hp gain.
also the slp single pipe really wakes them up as well. :D
tifa_5_2000 09-28-2004, 08:47 AM no no no nOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do not gut the airbox!! 10hp no way. mike :cussing: :cussing:
willy700 09-28-2004, 01:10 PM 10 hp gain- no way, just a noticeable improvement in bottom end and mileage.
3 of us with 04 700's gutted our air boxes and put on 1500 miles in conditions ranging from -10 to +5 celsius with no problems.
ski-doorider 09-28-2004, 04:51 PM I will tell ya what works very well on that 800 - Boysen's Rad Valve #65 reed cages. A little pricey what wow!!! what a gain. My neighbour put them and a EPI clutch kit on an it is a rocket now!!! :D
tifa_5_2000 09-28-2004, 06:56 PM i hate re explaining this 3 or 4 times a year. :bash: :bash: :bash: DO YOU REALLY THINK POLARIS WOULD SPEND TIME AND MONEY TO PUT SOMETHING ON YOUR SLED THAT IT DOESNT NEED? come over to my test track for first snow testing. we'll test reeds and airbox gutting. dont listen to me, show yourself. 3 of us with 04 700's gutted our air boxes and put on 1500 miles in conditions ranging from -10 to +5 celsius with no problemsim not saying its a reliability issue. it does not make any extra hp, nor do reeds. i hate to be so negative but its still your choice. mike
xc 600 09-28-2004, 07:59 PM Tifa 5 I cannot say I agree with you. Have you seen the Snowtech last feb. issue I believe were they installed a hot seat single pipe on the 800 then dynoed it then installed reeds dynoed again then gutted air box etc dyno run between every step and the HP just keep climbing now why would Snowtech make false accusations. Now possibly with out the pipe it may not be a difference but thats left for us to figure out. As for the air box the sled manufactures are making them more restrictive to make the engine quieter (less intake noise) have you tryed it, the factory air box is allot quieter then a sled with a gutted and horned air box.
3eyedcat 09-28-2004, 11:24 PM Nice looking sled, don't see enough of them on the trail....
tifa_5_2000 09-29-2004, 08:54 AM some pipes require aibox shelf removal. it will not help a stock sled, nor will reeds. reeds may help when coupled with a pipe or porting, otherwise no. a stock sled with reeds will not show much gain at all. mike
tifa_5_2000 09-29-2004, 08:56 AM ps yes i have tried it, and alot of other mods also. its hard to get by the hype, remember aftermarked companies make money by selling things. mike

i too bought a 2004 but a 700 pro x. i hear a main jet change is in order possibly 2 sizes leaner. i will drop one size and check it this winter when super cold. it is geared for trail riding not top speed. a gear change i hear for more top end is an option. dont think it will run with an F7 or doo probably due to gearing. i thought i read the shelf can be removed? but then it affects the jetting. i did not buy mine for top end. been there done that.
BCthetwo 10-04-2004, 06:18 PM I vote for clutching and maybe gearing.
Been down the road with airbox - waste of time and money.
Maybe single pipe if you don't mind the noise.
Put you're money in the SUSPENSION (SKIIS, AD BOIVIN KIT) AND TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION.
