: Nastiest flying insect
permafrost 05-25-2002, 09:07 PM Well its that time of year again. Right now we are infested with Blackflies. Can't even leave the house. Clouds of the evil pests. We have also been infested with crazy biting lady bugs that big brother released last fall http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Wolfman 05-25-2002, 09:24 PM Hard to post a vote on that one. *I *really* hate wasps. *They seem to chose to grow their nests everyplace that I normally frequent oustide. *I even found two LARGE, and thankfully abandoned wasp nests behind the passenger side headlight assembly on the Mercedes when I took it apart. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
Mosquitos edge them out though. *Those little bitches manage to get inside the house, so I've woke up in the mornings with fresh bites on occasion. *No refuge from them even inside here.
jwheeler 05-25-2002, 09:43 PM darn mosquitos will ruin camping and fishing trips every time, thats another thing i love about winter and thats no bugs.
Over here it's the giant mosquitos ruining the outdoor trips as well http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
it's not that bad yet, since it's still freezing here almost every night, but in a month or so it'll be almost impossible to go fishing without returning full of bites....
Mikadoo 05-25-2002, 11:54 PM BUGS!!!!! That's why I have given up on hunting--fishing--camping--hiking--dune buggy--motorcycling!
Once mother nature un-leaches her useless army of blood sucking, worthless, good for nothing, no purpose on this *earth trouble makers, it might as well be winter.
Lets face it, you cant go outside? At least not with a good layer of bug be dead on.
I would move to Alaska in a heartbeat if I had a good paying job to go to. Ya, there's bugs their too, but for just a few weeks.........
revrnd 05-26-2002, 12:05 AM Black flies bother me, but horse flies take chunks out of you.
The worst experience I had with black flies was the year I put the winch on my truck. It was the May 2-4 weekend. The flies are buzzing around your face and both hands are tied up threading nuts & bolts together. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif * http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Rocketman 05-26-2002, 02:06 AM They are all bad, but you can buy stuff to repell most...I chose bees/wasps etc....because I am deathly allergic to them, and can have as little as seconds before death if I am stung.
paul yarek 05-26-2002, 02:20 PM dislike them all but i voted for the most: mosquito
I voted for horse flies. But the more I think about it,I should have voted for the mosquito.
Snow Monkey 05-26-2002, 11:23 PM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif Them squiters are the worst for me..........only cause they come in a huge abundance http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Have you guys ever heard of B 52's ? 1 1/2" horseflies, first time I saw them, I thought they were bumblebees. Got them in northern Quebec, they don't contempt themselves with a chunk, they take an arm *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif *If blackflies are in great numbers (as they usually are) they bother me more though.
FishHog 05-27-2002, 05:51 PM Blackflies, all the way. *But atleast they don't last that long.
2nd would be horse/deer flies. *Put on all the repellant you want, and the little buggers will still drive you nuts with their buzzing.
FishHog
WINTERFREAK 05-28-2002, 12:11 AM Well let's get this straight...I HATE THEM ALL!!!
But if I had to pick one it would be the humming bird sized Mosquitos!! *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
highlandergerman 05-28-2002, 12:25 AM they are all bad, *however being from the land of ten thousand lakes, we have 10 billion mosquitoes.
performancex 05-28-2002, 04:00 PM I voted horsefly. *Those things hurt like heck.
Mosquitos don't bother me. *Guess I'm used to them, growing up with them and all.
Gnats can get annoying, when there's a cloud of them swarming your head. *The little tickle every time one lands on your face just gets to darn irritating.
Darryn Duncan 05-28-2002, 04:08 PM I voted horsefly only because they seem to be at every body of water that swimming is taking place. Other than that it has to be the monster mosquitos we grow here in Manitoba.
revrnd 05-28-2002, 06:01 PM That's got to be one of the worst things Winterpeg *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif is known for. Do they infest other cities or towns out there?
Steven Hohman 05-28-2002, 11:04 PM I voted Mosquito....but now that I am outside more, those hybrid japanese ladybugs are really getting to be a nuisance.....they seemed to hybernate in my garage right next to the sleds over winter, and when I started the machines, a bunch would come flying out attacking everyone in sight, you gotta hate them. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
performancex 05-29-2002, 04:45 PM Those dumb ladybugs are all over in my house. *They keep coming out of nowhere. *They're not biting us, though. *They do keep the cat entertained. *My 18m.o. son has eaten a few of 'em, too.
phazerhater 05-29-2002, 05:10 PM They are all a pain in the ars, but my #1 vote goes to Mosquito's. *They rule this land in the summer. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
performancex 05-30-2002, 05:35 PM I want to change my answer. *I was outside last night, and the mosquitos were so bad, I about went crazy. *It was 80deg, but I lit a bonfire just to get some protection from the bugs.
Mosquitos suck!
alscool 05-30-2002, 10:25 PM the worst bug is the one bugging right now and that is the black fly.
they will crawl up you leg and get in your shag.......
well enough said http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif
44xcr800 05-31-2002, 09:33 PM i voted for bee's because i work on peoples houses and i'm always around nest and most of them just won't quit.
phazerhater 05-31-2002, 10:00 PM Watch out for those africanized ones!! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif
Team_Arctic 06-01-2002, 02:27 AM well Mosquitos *we dont have many probles wiht other bugs side the ladybugs that the *UW *got rid of after they pissed em off *you can even go in the woods or leave the house they stick to you after u smush em *and the cloud the window screens * AHHHHH SNOW *SNOW SNOOWWWWWWWWW *get rid of the evil bugs http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
revrnd 06-05-2002, 11:42 PM What's the story with those ladybugs anyhow?
LadyK 06-06-2002, 04:26 PM Big brother let them loose I think to eat purple lustrife(sp?) but I am not sure. They seem to be biting less now. In the winter I vacumed them out of the window by the hundreds every day. I vote the black flies are the worst. I seem to be allergic to them. I had a bite on my hand that made my hand swell so badly it looked broken, my ankle has finally come back too, so black flies it is for me. I hate when you are sleeping and the mosquitos are trying to bite you and you can here the bzzzz in your ear all night http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Machzzzz1 06-08-2002, 01:12 AM I dont have a problem with mosqitos really. *I think im imuned to there poisen. *I dont even feel them.
How ever there is a tie between black flies and the new hybrid ladybug. *
Thoes ladybugs attack and stock you. *I had to get out my electric fly swatter and go to war. *to 3 changes of AA batteries before I got the job done.
revrnd 06-08-2002, 03:52 AM The ladybugs haven't bothered me, but sometimes the front of my garage is just covered with them. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
permafrost 06-10-2002, 09:51 PM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif well we now have deer flies and horsefly on the attack.as well as blackflys and skeeters. almost unbearable my head looks like a pumpkin as i have been in the cedar swamps for days assessing damage. *An interesting tidbit horseflies have been tracked at up to 67 MPH there is NO escaping them even on the quad. *They can follow a BB shot out of a gun at 500 FPS http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
revrnd 06-10-2002, 11:10 PM Was down at the bushlot on Sunday & noticed that the deer flies were out. Black flies weren't bothersome tough.
performancex 06-11-2002, 02:32 PM 500 FPS is 341 MPH.
Those are some fast flies!
