where is the coil supposed to mount?

what is this little aluminum square with wires coming out the bottom?
and where is it supposed to go?
I assumed it needed to be grounded, so I just stuck it here temporarily.

The coil goes on top of the airbox, I think the second pic is the regulator, I don't think it needs grounded. They're usually on the foot rest-just under the hood. I don't think the placement of either is too critical, as long as they're protected from heat, and easy on vibration.

Thanks. I had checked out brown's, but it doesn't really show where they go.

The voltage regulator needs to be grounded because that is how it works. It bleeds excess voltage to ground. The bolt that goes through the centre of the voltage regulator provides the connection to ground. It mounts to the frame just above the right foot well. The coil mounts on top of the air box and there should be two metal inserts visible on the top of the air box. These inserts are threaded for machine screws and spacers to mount the coil. At least that is how it is on my 94.

I just guessed at a location, and that's where I have it in the pic.
gracias

the airbox has metal inserts,,the coil is to be screwed to....Do you have an airbox??or has it been replaced with like,,single airfilters,,like K & N...if there is no airbox,,there are some holes on the 95s,,right of the steering column,,that can be used to connect the coil,,,,

my airbox is in a cardboard box, and I hadn't pulled it out and really looked at it yet.

can someone take a picture of where this scoop mounts under the hood?

If you have a question on where parts go, why don't you just come over and look at my sled. 1997 EXT 600. It's on the trailer in the yard waiting for snow. From your pictures on the General Forum the body style looks very simular. Give me a call.

If you're ever in the Duluth area, you're welcome to take a look at my sled, too. Or, if you need some pics of anything, let me know.

your coil doesnt have to be mounted to the airbox,,, that is where the come factory. If you didnt have an air box you would simply mount it somewhere else. I have seen them mounted on the tunnel with an aluminum tubes under each side and the screw simply ran through them before getting to the tunnel. This kept the coil from sitting directly on the tunnel. I have also seen them wire tied under the hood also.

94zr580 is correct, your voltage regulater has to be grounded,,, every cat I have has it mounted right where your right foot would sit in the stirrup. (right beside the chaincase)
