Are you still having a BBQ this summer?

hello again; what pipes are u running now? still crank shops or did u go jaws?

ZMachMan
05-31-2002, 05:52 PM
We have tested with the Jaws pipes on a "Stock" 809, *as that is the only way, * as we were told by Jaws, *that the Jaws pipes are designed to perform. * (Stock=No Porting, No Head work, Stock Pistons, * etc)

In My Opinion, *we could not achieve the level of * *"Consistant" * Performance, *that we could and consistantly do obtain from the CrankShop Pipes. * In plain Laymans terms, *the Jaws Pipes were to Finicky for my personal preference. * I personally think that the power band is too narrow, * and that they turn too many RPM's. * But before anybody hacks at this post, remember, *this is just my opinion.

I am sure there are some Jaws users out there, *who paid big bucks for their Jaws Pipes and think they are the best thing since sliced bread. * And that is Great, *but I perfer the Good Ole' Crankshop Pipes. * *Also with Crankshop, *you have the option of Porting, *Head Cutting, *Squish Adjustment, *Dome Reconfiguration, *Etc, *with-out having to worry about the effect of the pipes. * Sort of like having your cake and eating it too!

ZMachMan....

ZMachMan
05-31-2002, 05:57 PM
P.S.

Did I mention that the CrankShop Pipes Fit Much Nicer and Were A Lot Easier To Install.........

ZMachMan
05-31-2002, 09:19 PM
Not only the Temp Don, *but at what RPM the Pipes Starts to make Power and What RPM the Power drops back off, ( How wide the power band is). * In my research, *the Crankshop makes Power in a much wider Power Band and at a much lower RPM, *than does the Jaws. * *I would think that this would Translate into More Torque and a pipe that is much more forgiving, *when it comes to tuning. * Again, *just my opinion.

06-01-2002, 05:28 PM
exactly....zman... *i can remember back having this discution with u n you seemed to want to try the jaws.....heehe n i had told u that jaws makes big hp. but hp at high rpm wich meens no torque. all hes dyno sheets starts at an rpm like 7400 and up.. i still believe that crank shop is the way to go on skidoo. they make torque.. for drags. but on the same token it is still *hard to beat stock pipes with a stock engine. just with an exsaust tip (B and B) will make 5+ hp n not lose any anywhere. with after market u gain (10+) but lose some eles where. usualy down low. if your ported the pipes are a nice increase cause again when porting your rpm usualy goes up also.

It was great to hear from you again! *Did you get much riding in this past winter? * As you know, *the riding was kind of hit and miss here at best this year. *

MachZ69,

I do remember the past conversations about the Jaws Pipes that we have had and since we talked last, *I had a chance to work with the Jaws Pipes. * In all the testing I did this spring with the jaws, *As I previously Stated, *I found them to be too "Peaky", *in their power band, *and much to inconsistant. * I read your post in the Classifieds about the CrankShop Pipes, *and I think I can help you out. * Drop me an email.

The folks' property buts up against the Crown, so we had the MNR run the line for us. Mother wasn't impressed with where it went (she grew up on it) It would cost a fortune to get a proper survey done. Better safe than sorry when getting logging done, especially beside the Crown.

Your neighbour sounds like ours. The logger went by his directions & ended up paying his neighbour $5,000 *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

LadyK

That is exactly what happened the logger took his word for it and now he's being hung out to dry.The other land owner used to hold the mortgage on our property for us and the previous owner so he knew exactly where our property is, he was trying to rip me off and now the poor logger has to pay. Luckily he hasnt given the other land owner any $$$$.

LadyK

Well so far they counted trees on less than 1/4 of the lot that got logged and we are at 160 trees average width of 18", cedar, yellow birch, hard maple, soft maple, spruce, white birch and god knows what else. The deer used to inhabit the area in the winter big time so know they have to find somewhere else to live in the winter. The forester says the trees havent been cut in that area for over 100 yrs http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

revrnd

How far past the lot line did they go?

Depending on how badly they cleaned it off, you might want to consider planting white pine seedlings there now. I have no idea how many trees the parents have planted each year since we've had the property logged.

If you don't the only thing that will grow up will be balsams & raspberries.

Hey revrnd they went way past the line. They logged the ENTIRE piece of property including parts of the shoreline http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
I was gonna get white cedars to plant,(big ones 5'+) as that was what was here after the white pines. The cedars are between 100-150 yrs old. There is lots of monster burned out white pine stumps from a big fire in 1928. This forest will never be the same even in my childrens lifetime. It was also a major wintering ground for deer and i do see a bit of moose sign too. The ground is littered with deer sign EVERYWHERE and deer hair. They wont come there anymore as it will provide NO shelter . Today I saw a muskrat, beaver, kingfisher
pileated woodpecker(huge),unidentified hawk and a partridge with 4 newly hatched little ones. *I dont mean to sound like a tree hugger but i did *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif those trees. The place is a demolition zone now almost impossible to walk through. Damaged and pushed down trees everywhere http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

At times logging isn't the most reputable business. I've heard of instances where the guy will offer a landowner a flat price for the standing timber, when in fact the value is several times more.

When my parents have had their property logged, they get a copy of the "scale" from the sawmill as to how much timber was brought in. They set a fee per thousand feet of whatever type of log, white or red pine, maple, beech. No disputes then.
