Can anyone tell me how much chain case oil to put in a 1977 Ski-Doo Everest? There are no oil level screws or indicaters. I am going to use 80W90 GL5 Gear oil, which I assume is correct.

My book says 9 OZ.(256ML) is the correct amount of oil.You can also use a stiff piece of wire (coat hanger) according to the book to measure the oil already in the chaincase. It should be from 3 to 3 1/2".Some of the older Ski-Doo's use to have a sight window where the cover bubbles out for the drive axle on the lower sprocket. Why they did away with this,I don't know.Maybe it leaked?I hope this helps.

I would think that would be too thick of an oil to use especially when it gets real cold.It wouldn't get to all the places it needs to go as fast as it should.Alot of people recommend Klotz chaincase oil,I use the Ski-Doo chaincase oil only because it's already measured out.Just drain the case, and pour the whole bottle in.Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Most Chain Case oil is 75W80 GL3 Gear oil. This is now very hard to get except for what is sold at the dealer as chain case oil. GL5 will have more additives than really needed for a simple chain case, but should do fine (the viscosity is about the same as SAE #30 motor oil) I no of one Yamaha dealer who just uses #30 motor oil for filling chain cases
