How much of a steep angle and spring can a '02 Renegade 600 with about 5-10 HP worth of mods handle? Stock is straight 47. Thinking of going with a 56/44 multi and a 04 800 spring. Suggestions?

I wouldn't do anything till you ride it, a simple clicker adjustment may be all you need? Most the rer secondarys I've played with we leave the stock cam in and tune with either a lighter or stiffer spring. Those cams are pretty pricey to experiment with IMO.

just my o2 disclaimer

I would have to agree with hillpounder. Which is not unusual :) .

I've been wanting a clutch kit but can't bring myself to buy one.... I figure that it's only a sum of parts anyways! Every kit comes with a new helix and secondary spring. It gives you that nice "in gear" feel on the backshift - awesome for trail riding and good launch on holeshot. I've been tuning my primary with new spring and pin weight but don't get the feel of a kit with my stock cam and spring. Basically looking for what degree of angle in the multi's on the clutch kits!
I've read that for good holeshot and back shift, take your stock cam and add 10 degrees for inital and less 2 degrees for final. I.E. My stock cam is 47 degree. With that theory in mind a 57/45 cam should proved what i'm looking for.

I have a 52/47 and a purple/purple primary spring. I'm not sure what my ramps are and secondary spring is stock...

57 degrees sound a bit much to me but with the right ramps/weight/spring I'm sure you could make it work

jon, FWIW. the rer angles are aprox 3deg shy of the old formula angles. For example a 47 rer will shift at full throttle a lot like the old formula 50. So if you put a 57 rer in it would be like a 60 formula. Aint no way a 600 is pulling a 60! lucky if it pulled a 54 IMO.
Lot of kits on the earlier 600's were using 52/48's FWIW, that would be roughly a 49/45 in RER terms. I'm not saying these are the angles you should run but just giving something to think on. 1st change I'd make to the clutching on that sled would be to put the mxz spring in the primary, you should have a 160/320 in it now, swap to a 200/320. best $13 you'll spend on that sled. a 160 start tension with a solid pin is too much load on that 600 IMO

Whats your opinion on a 54/45 with violet spring. Stock is 47 degree. I've already got the primary spring changed from purp/purp to green/purp (200-320). I have RKTEC head and VF3's and added 3 grams weight to the pins (about 20 grams) now in clicker 2 @79-8000. RER pulley is stock. I can get this above helix for a pretty good bargin so I'm considering trying it. I'm planning on going heavier with the pins (22-24g) and maybe having to change the primary spring again to maybe to green/pink (200-350) or even pink/pink (230-350 or white 380) depending what affect the helix and pins make. Adding reed spacers and tpi valves this season and considering hard a set of crankshop twins. HP is above stock and it seems to pull fairly hard. Hillpounder you think she can handle it? What would be the side affect if it "couldn't pull it"???
