Have an 1980 500 Electro Ski-Doo with a broken kill switch, ( The selector poped off somhow) I cant get a switch for several weeks yet. How can I get this sled started up. How do I wire the switch to on until I can get to the store to by a new one? Thanks

It's been a while since i've done that but there should be a pull-apart further down the wires leading to the kill switch. If you disconnect the kill switch there you should be able to re-connect the wire to itself (may have to rig up a male-male piece of wire to close the circuit depending on pull-apart config).

Good Luck,

I thought that the kill switch wire was sort of like the key switch. When grounded it doesnt work, when not grounded or open it will fire.

On the old sleds all you had to do is pull off the back connector for the key switch and it would fire up. Is the kill switch not the same, just disconnect one of the wires and it works???

if it is just for now until you get another switch then just cut the wire close to the switch.

as i remember on the older snowmobiles all you have to do is unplug it and you are good to go....

Exactly, Just open the circuit and it will work. You should be able to unplug the switch like stated before. I had an old A.C. and the sled would quit running intermintedly, after a season of searching and replacing parts, I finally realized the killed switch had shorted out, simply cut and capped the wires and it ran perfect.

I have seen this a lot on the early to mid 90's cats. The kill switch always seems to break. I used a metal pick with a bent tip and you could reach in there and pull the still pull it up.

It's still the same on all Doos. Make sure the circuit is open by either cutting the wire or unplugging the kill switch from the harness.
