All i really waqnt out of it is to beet my freinds 94 mach one 670 , 91 mach one 617, polaris xcr 500, polaris xcr 600, a formula plus 583 and a xlt 600 tripple ? what would win in order in a long drag race ?? ? it would be really appreciated becuz this is bugging me ?? thanks :bash:

Congrats!

Ski-Doo makes a very strong snowmobile.

As for who would win the race, i do not know because their are so many factors to include in the equation. Rider's weight, mods to the sled, climate and condition are just some of the varibles that could change the outcome of the race.

a formula z is a sweet sled
i used to own a 96 xlt and it would never touch one of those

i have a hard time believing a 670 HO wouldn't clean out an xlt. i guess someday when they are lining them up i'll see for myself.

Congratulations on the FZ 670, they are sweet sleds.

What year is it and which skid do you have in it.

Is it still the AD Boivin style ARM / ARC skid? If so contact them about a one piece rear spring kit. It is a pretty much standard upgrade for these. Works real well.

Is it the original motor? If so I think it would be a standard 670. The HO was a MXZ motor in 99 only as far as I know.

In a race to the top I'd drop my money on the 94 Mach in the PRS chasis. These had the older more efficient Improved C7 and were known for cruising. The C7 gave up lots in the ride but it has good weight transfer and they love to carry the ski's. We had a 93 Mach 670 here ( buddies old sled) and it was a little rocket. Set up she'd launch like a banchee and carry the ski's for ever. Definately wax my XLT, not even close in HP. I really liked that sled except for the cable brakes.

The Formula Z is a cruiser. Not really designed for top speed or dragging.

The FZ was my alternate when I bought the XLT. I can tell you for sure you will not have a problem pulling the XLT. Top end the skid will hurt you some but the XLT's are still about 20 HP down on you.

The XCR is a triple triple built to battle the F3's. It is close and may be of concern up top. They have long legs and make around 116 HP.

Enjoy the sled.

from what ive seen those 670 H.Os are a nasty motor there probably crankin out about 120h.p. My friends dad had one and it was no joke when u punched it, to my believing i dont think any of these sleds u mentioned would come even 3 sled links within a 600ft dragstrip it could prolly top out at 110mph at 1/2 mile. Granite the XLT is an awesome sled one of my favorites for deep powder and the machs are great but the whole shot is where u get everybody, alot of low end and mid range comin out of that purple dragon. One of the greatest i think that skidoo has produced in its class.

Like ScottS said the FZs were just the ordinary 670s not the H.Os. Actually I don't think the arm/arc costs any top end.I've been in radar runs with a few and they seem just as fast or faster than my MXZ.I don't think you'll have any trouble beating any of the sleds you listed. The xlt won't even be in the same area code

I had a 98 FZ670 and realy liked it.

If you choose to make some improvements, do the AD Boivin spring upgrade for the rear skid. This will improve the ride quality 100x. If the Boivin kit was allready installed by the previous owner, the clue in is the bright yellow springs and 1" preload spacers. Stock springs were black 2 pc design and made that sled bounce like Tigger going down the trail.

Engine wise, get a good clutch kit in it and leave the rest alone.

Have fun

Some more skid thoughts,

On the skids I meant the long travel skids versus older limited travel skids like the C7 and older XLT skids. Mind you I'll take an ARM/ARC or SC-10 any day over a C7. I'm to old to ride a PRS far anymore. My back can't take it. I let my kids ride the old beast.

The FZ's ARM / ARC should be comparable to the MXZ's SC10. The longer travel skids both cost hp. As an example look at a M10 equipped edge versus a edge - edge and there is a noticable difference in mpg and performance. Why, more drag in the skid. A good ride costs dearly.

Most drag sleds use limited travel skids to minimize track rotation. For example they have minor bend up top and larger rear idlers and front drivers. Long travel have a serious bend up top. Track looses substantial hp doing the extra bend as well as wrapping around smaller idlers and drivers. Flat out track hp is what pushes you out the top.

As travel goes up, track contact goes down as does floatation. Smaller drivers and idlers get some of this contact patch back at the expense of HP. So in reality each design is a compromize.

Most of the legacy rockets like the MachZ triples, XCR's, SRX's rode like tanks compared to the others - why - performance going straight. Minimize HP loss in the skid.

This isn't gospel, just my 2 or less cents I've picked up over the years.

This would be a good topic for its own thread. Skids - why can't we have ride, floatation, turning, transfer and top end all in one skid? Thoughts ?

the H.O motor was also available in the 98 and 99 Summit. If someone put an H.O motor in that Z, ultimate sleeper! beat some 800's. If it the stock motor, clutch it. I raced one last year with my mxz670 and easily beat him. Same motors, clutching might have been different. I jumped out of the hole and kept pulling away. The second time i let off 3/4 of the way and still beat him.

The xlt doesnt stand a chance, a formula z 583 is faster. A stock Xlt was about 92-96 hp, 110-112 with pipes.

The 94 Mach 1, and XCR600 will be out in front.

The 670HO on the dyno, makes close to 129hp.

9.9 sec ET in 1000', same as the F7 FYI.

Sorry I don't want to hijack your thread, but I also just picked up a FZ670. I was wondering what kind of clutch kits are best for this sled?

Wow you can't really think that an xlt can beat a zr 700. xlt 600 is average at best.

Don't worry about the xlt 600. Slow machines. You should smoke all the sleds listed.

I have a 98 670 fz, (back up sled now to my rev) It's a great sled, never had a problem pulling the 600 xlt's. Cut the Y pipe, add shorty boots, change clutch ramps, and put a 501 rotor in it (you can do all this for $100.00 or so, and you have a giant killer, with no ill effect on engine longevity! The bovin suspension is not quite as fast, but the smooth ride is worth giving up a little on the top.....

great sled! I jsut got mine in April this year & am doing major maint work to get her ready. my buddy has the same thing but his is clutched, piped and geared (not sure on spec) and he hangs with another buddys REV 800 up to about 105 then his FZ holds and the REV starts to pull away. I am thinking bout regearing mine.
