Still got some work to do. *But now i got it tuned right where i want it. *As you can see everything looks a little red. *This is because i had to get a new hood because the old one was burned in a huge fire i had. *The guy spraying the new hood obvously didnt take the time to avoid spraying the engine.

Its making somewhere between 480 to 520 hp. * Not dynoed, told this by the engine builder who builds the engines for Cascar. *

It is a 5.8L 358ci stroker. *With highcompression pistons and bowtie heads. *Im running a Weiland Intake and holley 670 carb. *Runs real strong. *I beat a C5 corvette by 3 car lengths in a short race.

Now i got to dress it up with the crome. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Oh and can anyone remeber the project 340 everest turbo sled i had in mind?

Well i had to scrap the body. *I pulled the engine and its in good shape. *160 psi compression in both sides. *

Anyway i got the turbo ready for it. *and im going to a salvage yard to find a body.

Good pics man, looks good. *When you get the time pull that engine out and redo the engine bay and clean up the engine a bit and it will look great. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

A friend of mine has one too. He never washes the car behind his rear wheels to keep the small pieces of rubber on it..
"It's really manly" as he would say http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I should have a pic somewhere, but can't find it right now.

Yeah.

I got an order with summit right now for

1. Bowtie valve covers. (THe black ones with the red bowtie in the middle. *

2. Chrome water pump and altenator.

3. Chrome pullies.

I will then redu all the wiring and hoses so that there neat and organized. *Also got to get the spark plug wires off the v-covers and have them on the side with holders. *

I got a long way but i wanted to make sure it would hold up.

Your firebird looks awsome. *The pics are clear enough. *In my area i see a lot of camaros that are done up but firebirds that nice are rare. *

I also wish i could have one of those 2002 trans-ams with ram air. *They look awsome. *But i guess you cant own everything.

speaking of manly cars, here you got a 69 Charger that another friend owns.. 7.2 liters and drinking about 1 liter per 2 miles or something... you could guess who I thank for the last quote in my signature http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

he bought it a couple of years ago for about $4000, and has mainly been restoring the engine since then. he just finished putting in his new racing clutch last week.. quite annoying those things if you go cruising thru the city as we did on saturday... those clutches are almost like digital... either on or off, nothing in between, and the engine really doesnt seem to like the low rpm, at moments it looked like we had someone driving that had never driven a car before http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
the only thing that's wrong with it now is the skyport, but he already has a new roof around, just has to put it on. and the 3rd gear is kind of saying that it's tired so he's looking for a new gearbox for the right price. but spare parts are hard to find, there's only 68 chargers registered in the whole country here!

here's an under-the-hood pic

SWEEEEEET, all of them. *But I would have to take the Charger.

I wish I had time to fit in another hobby. *More money would be nice also.

Instead, I just drive my work truck.

I am going to buy a 426 crate motor today. *My buddy can give me a great deal. *Im still thinking it over. *Im leaning towards yes.

It would cost me $9000.00 Cdn. *Which is a amazing deal normally there 15000.00.

I am going to store the engine until i have the time and money to build an other car, it will probably be in a year or two. *

What am I going to build.

A 1970 Dodge Challanger R/T white like in Vanishing point. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I need a car i can cruise in. *My camaro shakes and is to loud. *Plus its hard to get it not to spin the tires. *And it only has 4 gears so its crap on the highway.

A 426 hemi doing 1800 rpm at 120 km is my kind of car.

I could tell you that this charger is quite loud as well. we had to shout in the car to be able to hear each other http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
also we had to put a jacket over the gear changing stick (or whatever thats called in english) once we were on speed to stop it from making the irritating vibrating noise from #### http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

If you want to talk in my Camaro you pull over shouting isnt going to work. *I mean loud. *

Loud as in every car alarm in a 500 foot radius goes off.

I make the money buy doing sales. *It is by far the easiest way to make cash. * I used to kill myself in auto mech and tool and die and i loved those jobs but then i got an oppertonity to do sales. *So i did it and its great. *

I also dont spend much on anything else. *I live fairly cheap, and i dont spend money on anything but sleding and cars. *

And thats the way i like it. *

I am by no means a rich guy who can buy what ever i want when i want. *I hurt the bank everytime i buy somthing but its like drugs to me as im sure it is for a lot of you people. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

the 440's are faster than the hemis and cheaper to build.the hemis spin tires to much.being an engine builder for local dirt trackers and drag racers,I want to know what combination you have to get 5.8 or 358 stroked.I have built many 358's and they were just .040 over 350(4 inch bore) block with stock 3.480 stroke.I build alot of 360 chevys that are the same 40 over 350 with a stroke of 3.500.I have an engine putting out 525 hp with an 850 dp holley that is 364 ci(350 .030 overbore,3 9/16 stroker crank).but my pride and joy is my 410 that hits the 767 hp mark on gaertes dyno in our sprint.the 950 is to much carb for a lil' 358 I dont care what heads are on it they will never flow that much air.I bet you would make more power with less carb.

Machzzzz1
06-16-2002, 11:53 PM
Dooman to be honest. *5.8 is a guess. *358 is accurate. *Im pretty sure it is like you said .040 over. *I didnt do the machining, I bought the engine from a builder. *

As for the carb. *I had the 950 holley before i had the engine. *So thats what i used. *I use it for the track because it is a double pumber and it does through tons of fuel down the engine. *This engine is reving at 7000rpm so it doesnt seem to have a problem with the extra gas. *

However it was way to big a carb for the street so i bought a 670 steet avenger and it runs great. *I dont really race the car so this is what i have on it most of the time. *

I also know a 440 is a better way to go but i like the 426. *Its not going to be a race car. *Im going to build a replica vanishing point car.
