Well after dozens of post and dozens of replies, weeks and weeks of searching, i finally put a deposit down last nite on a sled.

Its a mint condition 1994 SKIDOO Formula STX 583 Rave. Rebuilt motor with T-moly pistons, new belt, sliders, carbides and skis. It dosnt have a scratch or crack on it. It has hand/thumb warmers and visor hookup, but no e-start or reverse. I picked it up for $1500.

I'm so pumped to try it out this winter. It looks like its going to be a blast.

But i have a couple questions, how do i take apart and clean the rave valves, and how hard is it to drain and change the coolant?

Thanks- Neil

Well wheres the pics??
That's a good sled for you, you'll like it a lot more than the PRS chassis...
The 583 is a great motor too, very reliable...
The C7 rear suspension bites for the big bumps, but is very nice on the flat trails. Pay attention to freezerburnt's thread on installing a SC-10 into that same sled...He's also the resident expert on them :p , so don't be shy to ask him anything...

Rave valves (http://www.snowmobileworld.com/tech_center/tech_courses/ravevalve1.php)<-- theres the info on the rave valves you'll need...

Coolant should be just like any other sled to change..

Congrats!!

for pictures with description go to off-road.com (http://www.off-road.com/snowmobile/info/howto/2000/apr/rave/rave.html) and those carburetors could use a little clean up too.

That's great man! I think that's about the best spent $1500 you could find. That's a decent machine with lots of power and great reliability.

See ya on the trails!

Man I paid $3400 for my MXz 670 last year with 670 miles on it ( not joking on the mileage either) and I wish I could find something like that one for my wife/spare sled. Have fun!

doesn't someone make a kit for that suspension that makes it better, maybe look into that, find a used kit or something

one last thing, it has 14,000kms. this isnt a big deal is it? after looking at it and seeing the great shape it was in and talking to the owner i dont think that the mileage is a big deal? is it? I've seen tons of STX's with over 17,000, and the original owner of mine says the new motor has just over 300km's on it.

the miles he said are mostly trail ridden, he took it to cochrane (sp?) alot.

Did you ask why the motor was rebuilt

stuff to check out also

Check the rails where the front arm mounts ,I replace the rails twice

The rear idler shaft for wear-I neede to replace that this year

Limiter strap also needs to be checked

BTW grease the shiat out of the rear suspension whenever possible same goes for all other grease fitting :sly:

:cussing: recoil :D

Hows the track? mine is still in great condition with over 15,000klicks

Do you have plastic skis?

Nothing wrong with the steels btw :) but when I got the Flex skis last fall it made a huge improvement in handling IMO

You should be able to find a pair for $100-$1500 used easily

The guy I bought my SC 10 off of was selling his MXZ Flex skis for $125 and they were in great shape too :)

Good Luck, those STX are great sleds for the year

motor was rebuilt because he hadnt used it for a while or something it is was seized, so he just rebuilt the whole thing.

track is in great shape, was never studded.

i think the skis are steelies but not 100% sure.

how many k's can i expect to get out of this machine? Thanks.

I just picked up a pair of flex skis for my mxz for $100 USD on ebay. They were a little used but still in good shape.
