I bought a printer cable yesterday that seems to work with my HP 693C printer except I can't get any color to print and i've tried two good cartridges. And my roomates HP 610Cl wont work period. I've gotten the drivers from HP's site. The 610CL gives the message ot wasn't able to transfrere data or somethig like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Just curious, but what operating system are you running, and did you get the correct drivers for your operating system? *I'm sure you did, but I know that when you get the wrong drivers it can do strange things. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
If all else fails can you email/call the support guys at HP?

Yup win 98 and I got the correct drivers. I did both at the same time. It started after the hard drive had to be replace. We can't get Norton to stay downloaded either when the puter is shut down.

hmm, what did you mean by this?
anyway, I don't know how old your printer is, but I have a Deskjet 850C myself. Now there's a Deskjet 850 as well which is a black&white printer while the 850C has color. Could it be that there is a B&W version of your printer as well and that you installed the drivers for that one instead of the drivers for the color version? I actually did that once, easy to make that mistake if you don't think about it http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

when you said *any color like * you ment color in *other then black? does black work if so *then you prly have the color off and go to preferences and turn it on.. if the black works * if it dont then are you sure you have the right cable i would make sure that is is the right size and the printer is installed for the right version it is *just a thought *

About the Norton, It promts every time we turn the puter back that we are not protected and that we need to re-install it. It won't stay installed. All this started after a new hard drive from Gateway. I did downloed the proper drivers for each printer off HP's driver site. Ny 693c *won't print color, blabk is fine. I'll check the settings. It also prints extremely slow, and I do mean EXTREMELY slow. I just bought my 693C so it's all new to though it was used but tested out. The 610CL says it can't communicate back and fourth with the computer. Thanks for your help guys. My brother bought a new HP and he had to install and re-install drivcers ten times he said so it's screwy.

If you don't have an IEEE or USB cable (which are capable of 2-way communication) you will get this error message.
