: Sled Too Loud
xcrspman 11-04-2004, 12:32 PM Okay,
I just bought a '99 700Xcsp from a guy. This machine is in very good condition with many add ons. SLP twin pipe, rejetted for the pipe, V-Force reeds, SLP air box, Hot Seat Clutch kit. I love all the extras but the pipes are just too loud for me. What I need to know is can I put the old exhaust back on without having to make changes to all the other add-ons he put on. Will it need to be rejetted? If it does need to be rejetted, do you guys have any recommendations?
xc007 11-04-2004, 12:59 PM You will need to at least change the jetting and clutching. The reeds and airbox will be fine.
Depending on what you have for clutching right now, you may or may not need to change all the pieces (weights, primary spring, secondary spring, helix).
As far as jetting, for my 2000 I used 180/185 at 1500' alt. That worked well but now I've installed a tempa flow which IMO is the way to go
tifa_5_2000 11-04-2004, 07:05 PM im pretty sure you can dump slp twins into a stock can. that would get rid of the noise and hardly change performance. mike
xcrspman 11-05-2004, 06:49 AM Tifa,
That sure would be the way to go. Quick easy fix. I'll check it out this weekend and report back. xc007, I've been thinking about the tempa flow due to all the add ons this machine has. Was it easy to install?

If you have questions, just call SLP tech support. They will give you the best advice. Generally speaking performance "racket cans" don't add squat for hp, just noise, and they save a few pounds.

tifa_5_2000 11-05-2004, 08:49 AM tempaflow goes right on w/o much work. just be sure to follow the directions EXACTLY. mike
xcrspman 11-05-2004, 10:32 AM Tifa,
Here is the response via email from SLP. Let me know what you think.
"We have never tested the system with the stock silencer but I would expect
it to be more restrictive. With that in mind it may create enough problem
to create detonation. There is no history for tuning so that would need to
be done from scratch. Wish I could be more helpful but at the time there
was no reason to pursue the stock silencer being used. Thanks, Jim"
QUEBEC#1 11-05-2004, 10:39 AM I would think you could buy a new canister from slp made for the pipes, the new ones are less loud, even with the stock canister the 99 xc's were very loud compared to the 2000's and up.
tifa_5_2000 11-05-2004, 06:22 PM interesting. they offer the single pipe for stock can or slp can. i dont see the kit to run stock can for twins. i do know htg runs twins into a stock can. they use a small y pipe. mike
xc007 11-07-2004, 12:48 AM Installing the Tempa Flow was was easier than I thought. Your should be the same as mine which is detailed in this article

Hey guys ! I don't know if this is any useful to you, but I had a 2000 XC 700 SP with a SLP single pipe with their canister, which was louder than stock. Infact, it was loud enough to get me a ticket for improper muffler. Up here in Ontario, Canada, after market exhausts are illegal. However, I spoke to Jerry Matthews of SLP who is very knowledgeable and friendly and told me that with a special gasket and o ring the stock can could be used with their pipe. It will definitely quiet the sled down. Hope this is of some help to you...
michahicks 11-08-2004, 12:36 PM My 2c would scrap the twins and go back to the original single. Then see what SLP and Vforce recommend for jetting changes and go from there. Just a guess, but thinking the original OEM jets will be close. The Vforce and air box mods are likely to cause it to run a little leaner, bringing the normally way too rich stock jets right into the range of being close. A couple of plug checks should verify that easily.
xcrspman 11-08-2004, 06:01 PM I think I'll try going back to the stock pipe. This machine is just too loud for me. I'll take that advise and rejett after doing this by calling SLP about the air box mod and V-Force on the reeds and Hot Seat about the clutch kit. I know if I bring it back closer to stock I will be better off in the long run.
Psxbs 11-08-2004, 10:29 PM The louder the better.
If you travel through a town or establishment that prohibits loud sleds, simply coast through it.
