: A Boy's Dream
Thumbdoctor 11-06-2004, 04:25 PM Has anyone seen the Chevy Corvette ad "A boy's dream". What a great job!!! it's got stunts, flash, great angles and yes, a 10 year old boy driving it like he stole it !. Just to set the scene, it's a DREAM not reality. The only reality is it cost GM's Chevrolet division 3 million to produce it. Now because of some public pressure it's been pulled from television, theaters and the internet. Apparently this ad crosses the line according to the president of Kids And Cars (www.kidsandcars.org) and they think the premise of any 10 year old dreaming of taking a brand new Corvette for a scrape is sending a wrong message to our impressionable youth. Gimme a break !!!. I'm beginning to believe that due to my unregulated (Big Brother/sister) totally unsafe childhood, I should be as dead as a cat falling from a sky scraper for the tenth time. When are we going to be regulated to safe cocoons so we don't injure ourselves or upset someone seeing us have some fun??.
That's my rant for 2004, I hope I didn't insult anyone's vastly superior intelligence.
T.D.
paul yarek 11-06-2004, 08:48 PM Simon,
well put.
permafrost 11-06-2004, 08:57 PM It is a justifiable rant Simon as the fun police are closing in. They already have 1 micro second deployable cocoons built right into our cars now. Air bags coming from all sides :) I havent seen the commercial but wish I did.
Jeff
TallCool1 11-06-2004, 09:34 PM I couldn't believe it either Simon when I heard they were pulling that commercial. See, it's not just the treehuggers that are crazy, there are herds of these people out there that are so miserable they don't want anyone else to have fun. One flip through the channels when the daytime soaps are on is enough to make me gag and wonder what the hell is this b.s. doing on regular TV, but I'm not protesting anyone for it. LIVE AND LET LIVE, OR DIE AS IT WAS ONCE SAID!!!!
Let's see, if we could find an remote island somewhere big enough.......
Thumbdoctor 11-06-2004, 10:15 PM I managed to find a copy but you will need QuickTime to view it.

shortstop20 11-07-2004, 12:13 AM I get so sick of this $@1T about TV, video games, actors, etc., etc. being responsible for children's actions. I'm 18 years old and I've been playing graphic video games like Doom, Duke Nukem, Mortal Kombat, the GTA series(just to name a few) since I can remember. But if I did something I shouldn't then my parents made sure I didn't do it again. The law won't even let parents discipline children anymore, if they give them a spanking to teach them a lesson, they get arrested for child abuse....What a crock. If you can't separate reality from video games, movies, etc. then you shouldn't be playing them. Corporate America, and the media are destroying our kids.....Give me a F*(k!n# break!
Spaceman 11-07-2004, 07:22 AM That is one sweet vid.
If my kid was stupid enough to think that that was real, I'd box his ears. See thats old school thinking. The kind that our parents gave us back in the 60's. When we were taught common sense and repercussion for ACTING stupid. Nowadays everyone wants to believe that children ARE stupid and that they can't tell real from fantasy. And that is what the hell is wrong today.
mxzwfo 11-07-2004, 08:40 AM Spaceman, I am with ya on that one. When I was groing up I had the upmost respect for my parents. If I did something wrong, I was punished, period! I have notice, even with my own kids, Thety have very little respect for thier elders. Most kids today will push the envolope because they know they will get away with it with minimal to no action being taken towards them.
performancex 11-07-2004, 09:46 AM There's an article about it in the current Motor Trend.
Pretty sad that Mothers Against Kids Having Fun (M.A.K.H.F.) had to step in the way.

Same here. I feared facing my parents if I did something wrong when I was a kid through teenage years. Not really due to fear of physical punishment, although my face did play tag with my dad's backhand once in a while, but I under no circumstances wanted to embarass them or me. I pretty much got what I wanted as long as my dad felt that I worked for it and appreciated it. That feeling of knowing I let them down was worse than any other punishment. I only hope I can pass that same sense of respect down to my boys. So far my 6 y.o. hasn't gotten it, but he better soon. The problems with today's kids is definitely a product of our society. I'll just stop there, or I'll be going on for days.

This is precisely the reason why I choose to not have any kids. I KNOW how much of a hellion I was. :dazed: The thought of raising a little version of me, and not being able to keep the kid under control for fear of reprocussions from social disservices...... not on your life.
Psxbs 11-07-2004, 07:22 PM In two words I can sum it all up:
CENSORSHIP SUCKS
mccracken 11-09-2004, 09:06 PM conform you lemmings, conform! running with scissors is serious, you better think about it first. We've got a magnet on our fridge, says "go confidently in the direction of your dreams, LIVE THE LIFE you've imagined" . Children need to be taught to dream, not have their imaginations drained out of them. (all the while respecting the law of course!) Censorship and repression suck. ....Frau McCracken
Good2Go 11-10-2004, 06:32 PM my uncle did a job for a HUGE GM commerical, where cars hit jumps, went through buildings, and lots of huge stunts, where 3 new gm's run through an underground parking lot doing slides, spins, etc...
it was going to go USA and Canada international. The big man from GM LOVED the commercial when he saw it and it was all ready to be premiered. But, because of some union act claiming that some yahoo's in the states would actually try some of these outragous stunts, that they couldnt let the commercial play.
it's pretty sad that some of the immature ruin it for the rest of us.
shortstop20 11-11-2004, 12:08 AM I agree completely Good2Go, we all get a bad rap for a few bad kids.

yes, censorship does suck. but to a level.
and besides in the 70's and 80's there werent video games out where you kill people and on tv back then it was no where near as tv is today.
but cencorship does suck, to a certain level
