The truth is out there (http://www.deviantart.com/view/11454716/) :sly:

The truth for me is that I believe a major portion of pet owners don't have the desire to be good masters, and therefore raise bad pets. And I also believe that the ratio of bad bull owners askews that also. People gotta commit to being a good master not just say; "lets get a dog".

Well said Spaceman.

The only thing "wrong" with a pit bull, or any guarding breed for that matter, is their reputation. It's that damned rep that sparks the interest of the low life thugs, who have no business being responsible for any breed of dog in the first place.

and the other problem is the MEDIA who look for ratings and create a reputation that people who do not know will think certains thing are what they are not in most cases!!!!

But thats what everyone sees. I never see a family walking there pitbull around a neighbourhood. I only see the young male trying to look tough, in the downtown area, with the huge thick chain in hand.

I have 2 friends that have PB's, and they are great with the kids, and with friends.

I have a sheppard, I am sure that if there are a few sheppard attacks I will face the same thing.

Same thing happened to Rotties a few years back. Couple attacks in a small time frame and the humane societies were packed with people bringing there dogs.

ITS A JOKE. Ban the owners, not the dogs. I have no opposition to a registry, (could weed out the bad owners), but not a complete ban.

we have 2 dogs, one half black lab half golden retreiver, and the other one is 'unknown' but my best guess is that she's part sharpei, part yellow lab, and part pit bull (has overlapping rear teeth).
The sharpei mix was a stray that showed up at the house with no collar and finally after 7 days she still hadn't gone away so we decided to keep her.
We have a baby now too so of course the dogs behavior is more of a concern. Both of the dogs seem to have a few loose screws. (who knows, maybe they get that from thier owner :) With the black lab mix, he's just a big goofy beast and I worry more about him knocking kids over on accident. The sharpei mix is more loyal and craves attention more and I also trust her more to protect my family if needed. However, she also has more of a mean streak and I worry more about her biting someone who doesn't deserve it. However, neither of them has attacked anyone so I would like to think it's in part because I've done my best to train them. I think every dog should get one chance, and I believe that's the way the law is setup here in the states. If the dog attacks once with no good reason, it needs to be destroyed, no matter what breed it is, and if that is done then I think the owner can't get in any real trouble. If you have a dog that attacks twice and you didn't destroy it after the 1st attack then you are opening yourself up for a big lawsuit...
I have heard about some insurance companies refusing to write homeowners policies for people who own certain breeds of dogs and I think that is a bad idea. However, considering how much I hate insurance salesmen anyway it doesn't supprise me..

Is it that they don't have the desire to be a good master or in todays society many of us do not have the time to spend, and the knowledge, to do just this. I have seen to many people get a dog just for the sake of having a dog and have no time to spend with them and no idea how to train them and then six months later or a year later you always here how the dog is so bad and it does this or chews that etc. Pets, be they dogs or whatever, are not just cute christmas presents that we buy then ignore. I have a chocolate lab. In all honesty she is not a pet she is a part of the family. Both my wife and I spent countless hours every day training her and showing her we care. We now have 2 small children, 6 months and 3 years, and we still make time for her. She is also our oldest childs best friend. Like they say there are no bad dogs just bad owners. This is true not just for Pit Bulls but for any breed.

I posted this up a week or so ago in GS in the Pitbull Ban Post.
Thanks for revisiting the issue, It hurts me to watch that video.
Seeing what monster people can be to dogs and even to their children, just makes me violent inside.
Remeber the aZZ that dragged his Rottie down the street in Toronto?, I wanted to driver there drag him up the street in my truck see how he liked it.

We are still trying to fight the ban, go to your local humane society or pet store you will probably find a copy to sign.

Hey Wolfie, remeber the dogs at our chalet you were playing with at Pinestone.
You know they are Pitbulls right?
Reason I ask some people dont even know what they are playing with untill after the fact.

From what you guys have stated, I'm not going to watch that video...sounds like I'll just get po'd and won't be able to do anything about it.

For many years my older brother had at least 2 pit bulls in the family at once. He had 3 kids and they were never harmed by the dogs, sometimes he had as many as 4 or 5 PB's at once. These dogs were well-taken care of and never abused. My sister also had a Rottie for at least 10 yrs. She also had a son and the dog never harmed anyone. Seems to be a pattern with animals/owners, isn't there?? The activists against these dogs are just another group of people that need to be put on that remote island with the extremist treehuggers.

Thank you very much, we appreciate any help we can get in this war against the dog haters.
My Vet, has never ever had a Pitbull or Bully Breed bite , nip, or give HER a hard time.
She has told us of many other dogs that have been banned from her clinic.
Like I said before if your near a pet place or a Vetranary clinic, stop in Im sure they will have a petition to be signed.
We are looking for 100,000 signatures on paper, not the net.
You must live in Ontario, BUT you dont have to be age of majority , so have your kids anyone sign it.
If you wish me to fax a copy to you.
Give me a call or send me a pm email and a number to fax it to .
Then I ask it to be mailed tot he address at the bottom of the sheet.

If we yell loud enough they will hear us.

i know of a couple decent dog owners that have pit bulls and the rest i see are bums that own them. so from what i can see it is good for the dog to take him away from those boneheads.
