I noticed my fuel economy wasnt too great on my 99' polaris xc 700. I guess thats what this model is known for, known for running real rich stock. I heard that if you did some tinkering with the carbs it would help it out. What do you do to the carbs?

I found out that my stock jetting for sea level riding is set at -20 to 10 degrees. I was wondering if it would make a difference if i put the 10 to 40 degree jets in. I live in Indiana so its never really too cold. And when the jets have a bigger number does that make them bigger? Because the 10 to 40 degree jets are smaller in number size. And would i have to change any other jets or settings?

I had the 99 XC700 and it was truly a pig from the factory. 65 to 75 miles would get me to empty on the gauge, there was probably still a gallon or so left in the tank. Also it was so rich in the mid to low range it would gurgle and stumble at slow speed.
I dropped the stock needle one click and lowered the main jet one size. I also added a boost bottle. After these changes I went from about 7-8 MPG to 10-11 MPG. I was getting 100 miles at the empty reading on the gauge. That jetting was safe for me down to at least -10F.
