Looking at a 1999 670 HO, but i am concerned about the crank bearings. The sled only has 1500 miles on it. however i have been informed by a couple buddies that the crank bearings have "plastic baskets"?? and that the calf out often. Any help would be appreciated.

The bottom ends of these motors are very solid. One of the biggest contributors to failed PTO bearings is poorly developed clutch set ups which create a lot of belt slippage and heat on the PTO end of the crank. Cheap or worn out drive belts net the same heat related bearing failures. If you hear a tell tail whistling noise from the PTO side (engine running with clutch removed) then the bearings need further investigation. The HO crank cannot be exchanged for a non HO or you will find some power loss (HO crank has different flywheel key location).

Does the stock clutch set up cause this problem? is any adjust necessary? If anyone is aware of the best clutchin for this sled info would be appreciated.
