Seeing thats its summer I have decided to put a High Performance Ford 302 in my '80 Pinto I built the engine to put out around the 350-400 HP range. The car is being built right now and I'm a little worried about the tranny blowing apart or twisting the drive shaft in half. I swapin a 8" rear axle out of a 1977 Granada along with the driveshaft and C-4 tranny. Has any else done a simular swap? How will the drive line hold up?
Any tips or comments welcome
UNLESS YOU THINK HONDA CIVICS http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif ARE COOL!!

the rear will hold up to the low torque 302 as will a good c-4 and torque converter.I have built a 302 for a 69 mustang using a c-4 and 8 inch rear .your lighter so that helps.I * * *would say your problem with drive shaft will be that it's probably to long for the pinto.I would buy a new shaft that is cut to length, remember you need some clearance in the shaft for in out movement of the yoke, which occurs during suspention movement.there is a place in Indy that does these for around 100 dollars you send them your yoke's front and rear they install spicer u-joints and build shaft to your specs.the 69 runs 13.00's at around 104 mph,I know time is right but mph might be differant.or if your coming to town they have one day service drop of your stuff in morning they have done by the end of day(usually only a couple hours) place is Pattersons.
