It looks as though Roetin is going under. Spoke to a large dealer of Roetin products and he has been told that they are going under. They have been waiting for orders that have been "backordered" for months. All the staff has been let go. The owner is the only person there, if you can get through...

What have you heard?

Too bad...they make the best picks and carbides.

I agree that their stuff is the best. I noticed that they weren't available from Shade Tree and some other catalogs this year. I thought something was up with that. Too bad!!!

Thats to bad employees had to lose there jobs. However I have used there products in the past (Carbides) and found them to be very inferior to the others. The studs broke on every set and they wore out faster than the others. Perhaps a huge amount of people had these same issues. They also could have just plain and simple mismanaged the company.
Just my 2 cents.

Thats amazing that I thought them best, and you thought them worst. I have the same delemma with Bergstrem. I hate them and my friend loves them.

Sorry to hear also about Roetin going under, I had their runners a few years ago and they wore out rather quickly I thought so I wanted to try another manufacturers runners. After researching many different manufacturers of carbides, I called Scott Bergstrom and he spent 25 minutes with me on the phone explaining the differences in carbides and steering problems.I have used his products since he first started in business many years ago and after getting my 2 sets of new carbides from him, can see why he is still doing a great business. Thes carbides are on 1/2" rods, and they bolted up perfectly on my plastic skis.He also gives you a free set of shims to place at the front or rear under the spindle on the skis to eliminate front or rear premature carbide bar wear. Not many other business owners will take the time to help out some one personally.I call this good customer service.

Paul, I was thinking the same thing. Until we have official word this topic will be locked to prevent further "speculation". I'm going to email Roetin to see if I get a reply. If I get a response, I'll post it here.

I checked their website Roetin (http://www.roetin.com) & it is still online. Here are the methods of contacting them:

Roetin Industries
66 School St
Victor, NY 14564
(585) 924-7780
Fax: (585) 924-1463
roetin@frontiernet.net

If anyone in the area could try the phone number to see if you can contact the office it would be helpful.

I was thinking the same thing. A couple of weeks ago it was going around that Bergstrom was out of business. I heard this even from a supplier. Turns out is was not true.

My inside parts guy said they have gone "under" a couple times. As of december they were making parts again, but they are WAY behind. I just put a set of their 6" cabides on. I love them so far.

Sorry to go off topic, but I never thought about shimming the ski (under the spindle) to prevent carbide wear at the front. Has anyone else tried this, and does it work?

Sorry to hijack this thread but don't forget to get some pics of the new chassis Blair Morgan will be introducing at the races. (Or is this past tense as I think they were last weekend.) If so, please, please post them ASAP.

Okay, back to the thread. I spoke with the owner and another fellow from Roetin at the Toronto sled show.
They climbed out of their financial difficulties and are doing well now.
The had to close down their Burford, Ontario Manufacturing facility after they recovered it from several years of mis-management and abuse as the couple that was running things there were selling the studs and carbides out the back door for way less than dealer pricing. (Which explained to me how my buddy was always able to buy these parts so cheaply there for all of us. LOL) This couple was let go and Dave MacKenzie, former Police Chief of Woodstock, took over and brought the operation back to profitablity but then he pursued other interests.
(He's now the Member of Parliament representing Oxford County/Riding. I doubt he can bring that zoo back to profitablity.)
Rather than risk getting burned again and trying to find someone to take over, they made the difficult decision to close down the Burford Operation. That might explain any difficulties they might have experienced filling any orders until they ramped up production in N.Y. State.

I never thought to ask the guys behind the counter how Roetin was filling their orders.

Jeff no sign of a new chassis. Check my threads in the Racing forum.

When I was talking to one of the mechanic's from BMR he told me flat out that the new chassis will not be introduced until the new year. It is going to be marketed with a new comsumer sled....sounds interesting.
