: Calling All Computer Gurus!
The Hossman 11-28-2004, 03:43 PM I was going to call this post "Calling All Computer Geeks", but I thought 'Guru' would provoke a better response. :D
Anyways, I was in the middle of posting something earlier, and was making a correction. Instead of hitting the [DELETE] key, I hit the [POWER] key which is right beneath it, which is very poor planning, but what do you expect for a $10 keyboard. So, needless to say the computer shuts down and I have to wait for this old dinosaur of a computer to fire back up again.
This has happened to me way too many times, usually when I'm working on something which I haven't saved. :cussing:
So, The Hossman gets a brilliant idea. Take the power key out. Flipping over the keyboard reveals a zillion little screws holding this thing together.
Does anybody know how to disable the key through Windows? I am running XP.
Thanks!
permafrost 11-28-2004, 03:54 PM If you cant figure out how to disable it through software, then physically diasble it with a set of Vise grips. Rip that little offending sucker right off the key board.
Perm
doo rider 11-28-2004, 04:06 PM yeah just pop the actual key off and put a piece of tape or something over it.
TripleDigits 11-28-2004, 04:12 PM Swear at it.
hehe, i would rip it off also. Put some tape over the hole.
Put mustard on it. Lots of mustard.
The Hossman 11-28-2004, 08:37 PM I should have known better than to ask a computer question in a snowmobile forum....
Well, Vise grips won't work - the stupid key is half-round. That would have been the easiest solution. I tried swearing at it - it had no effect. A new keyboard? What are you insane - it's $10! ...and mustard? Zog's been into the Pils tonight it looks like.
Well, I guess all those tiny screws are coming out. Wish me luck!
Russ Wheeler 11-28-2004, 09:24 PM And so was the story of The Hossman, never to be heard from again, as without a keyboard, he could no longer post on SnowmobileWorld. Doomed to an eternity of only being able to point and click, he thought to himself...
"If I had only gone into the control panel, and then 'power options', clicked on the advance tab, and then changed the 'power buttons' to 'do nothing' this whole mess never would have happened!"
:D

Proved you wrong!
I appreciate your assistance Keith, unfortunately the wrenches were flying at The Hossman's desk before I got your response. I took all those pesky little screws out, and removed the little rubber thingy from under the power key. Then I tried to type something and realized that my spacebar didn't work. So,everythingItypedlookedlikethis. Then I took it apart again and realized that the rubber thingy from under the spacebar had disappeared, but luckily I still had the little rubber thingy from under the power key to rectify the situation.
Catastrophy averted... just another day in the life of The Hossman.
Russ Wheeler 11-28-2004, 10:28 PM Well congratulations!!
Hey, I'm getting a vision here...You know these keyboard problems have got to be fairly common....I'm sure there's a way to make money off this...Hossman's Home Keyboard Repair? Sounds like a cash cow to me :lmao:
