Have a chance to get a 98 zr 500 for maybe $1500 in minnesota. Good shape except for a few dings to the hood and some track wear. How are these sleds? i've ridden mostly polaris. How is the suspension? skis plastic/ steel? shocks fox or other?
i haven't actually looked at this sled. Considering it as a second sled. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

It had Plastic Ski's and Re-buildable Fox Shocks in it from the factory when it was built. If they are not on there now, someone switched them out.

I have had a "500" ZR for the last couple of years. Mine had a Big Bore Kit in it but the rest of the sled was the same as you are looking at. I really liked the way it handled. Sounds like a good deal!

If you don't buy it, let me know where it is and any info you have on it. I have a friend who is looking for something like that. We're in the Duluth area.

Thanks

I own one of these sleds - has almost 7,000 miles on it and it is a little rocket.
Set-up properly it will run with my 600 all day long. I could be wrong, but I think it was the fastest production 500 in the 98 model year.
Rides great, handles like it is on rails, and screams to 80 m.p.h. or so.

It is a gas pig (about 10 m.p.g. if ridden hard) but overall a good sled.
Make sure the clutching is set right. If you can make it shift between 8600 and 8800 rpm it will fly. Whatever happens though do not run it past 9,000 r.p.m. or it WILL eat pistons.

Oh, and $1,500 is a good price for that sled if the miles aren't rediculous high.
I would probably sell this one for 1500 - $2000.00.

Good luck,
