Well at 9:30 yesterday we couldnt make it up the raod on the mountain so we were forced to turn around and ride somewhere else. There werw 4 trucks and 2 trailors so everybody was looking pissed off that the road has not been plowed and that could be the demise of uou sunday ride. We drove another 100 miles and arrived in petersville AK around 1:00 (extremely late start) and it had just snowed 2 1/2 feet the night before so there was alot of great snow. We knew if we wanted to get any riding in we had to go NOW. This trip there was 7 sleds and 3 of them were short tracks so I spent most of my day getting them unstuck. I didnt get alot of pictures but had a good time here is a couple.

It was a good ride even though we only rode for 3 hours and broke the suspension out from one sled and cracked the hood on another. Now that I look at it all of the pictures are of the short tracks of the bunch...man can they get in some trouble. :D

yeh I can say that I am impressed with that sled it held its own for a short track. It takes a beating and keeps on going it seems to fly pretty well too.

Well my buddy took the picture of the road while I was driving. The rest of the pictures I took I missed 2 other pictures where sleds were jumping off the same jump the mxz was. It was the first time I tried to catch some action shots with the flash so the delay was a little different then normal. I bought this camera before this season started and I am very impressed with the durability and quality of the pictures, it also captures video shots too but I cant post them due to there size or I could show some of those. I have been bringing the camera on all of my trips this year and I will share the photos with you guys as the season progresses.

Maybe I'm missing something........But why didn't you just unload the sleds and ride em to where you was going in the morning? Looks like the road offered plenty of snow and fast riding for a sled. :bash:

Well you are right there was plenty of snow to ride up the road to our destination but, it is a state park and they have only opened the top of the mountain to sledders due to what they call nonadaquite snow conditions on the bottom, although I think they probly opened the bottom later that day after they noticed how much snow fell the night before. The park rangers are pretty touchy about sledders on the road they have a system where they charge $50 for each ski on the road. There are alot of skiers, and snowboarders that ride near the road and they get the same fines as the snowmobilers. I think visibility up there that day would have been near nothing and that can make everything difficult so we didn't really have much of a choice.

oh come on you are beating yourself up too much winter will come soon enough. I know from my early pictures it seems like Alaska is paradise but there is some down falls to living up here.
1. Hight price of living Everything cost more.
2. Gas prices are high 2.12
3. Having to own a 4 wheel drive( don't here me complaining about this one)
4. If you enjoy summer you better hurry
5. Airfare to visit relatives and vacationing
6. ............ well that is all I can think of but I wouldn't want it any other way this is where I have been raised and I have known it as home. AK forever :D

rmkman, it has finally come to us down here:). I only wish that the ground had frozen before the snow came,:(. We have almost a foot here and more than that just north of us and it is still snowing hard. It is expected to snow here for the next week :). I made a seriously crital judgement error this morning when driving the kids to the school bus. Our driveway is almost a mile long and has a HUGE hill on it with a 7:1 grade. Instead of taking a 4X4 or a sled I took the VW golf diesel. Needless to say it way one way tour. I barely made it half way up my hill before I was buried. IT is horrible getting stuck there because backing out is not an option unless you want to go over the edge. I had to pull a reverse Starsky then shift into first and ride it out, then walk home.

What did all of you do this morning,:)

Sure did, it is packing snow and compacting quite a bit. Railbeds will be good for a rip if this keeps up for the next few days:)

I was wondering that too...but then I realized that there wasn't any trees on the road. Better to drive another 100 miles in miserable weather to get in some tree riding. lol, I fail to see the pleasure in huffing and puffing whilst trying to dig your crate out from a ditch, tree or other hidden obstacles.

that is one funny mental picture you painted for us I think I will chuckle about that for the rest of the day, even though the golf didn't complete the voyage to the school bus I think this is a fine day for you....due to all of that white stuff on the ground. From that picture I would think a guy could probly have some fun around the house on his sled don't you??

I have noticed that there are not many of them up protecting mother nature from the sledders they the ones that live up here are too focused on ANWAR pipe line to bat an eye at us......thank god.

My buddy who hit that tree said he was cleaning the snow off his goggles while driving and all of sudden SMACK! there he did it he hit one of the few trees on that little swamp. ohh well you know I orignally owned that sled and I took immaculant care of it it was in near new condition when I sold it. it kind of hurts deep down when I see that kind of stuff, do you guys have that same problem?

Great shots!!!!!! Trails officially opened here today in Iron County WI. Have about 8 inchs left from Sat. Club meeting tonight. Been busy today, traded a sled for a Blazer with a plow. Pulled one of my son's sleds out that needs some drive shaft bearings. Will ride tomorrow. Put 35 miles on Monday and it was nice.

Happy trails
