My brother just bought a 99 Sea Doo XP 951. *This is his first jet ski. *He had it out yesterday and was playing pretty hard on it. *When he came back into shore the hull had filled up pretty good and the engine also ended up filling up with water. *We pulled it out of the water pulled the plugs off and pumped the water out. *We got it running again and replaced the battery because it wouldn't hold a good charge. *Anyone have any ideas what would have caused this before we take it back out. *The local mechanic thought that maybe when the battery was low the bilidge pump wouldn't work well.

It was the battery at fault I'll bet. Take it out and watch it. But first take a hose and fill it with water on shore to see if the pump works. Water in the motor concerns me though. He should've noticed something was wrong if there was enough water to get ingested.

The bilge pump should run off battery power, so if the battery was bad, that should have beenn the problem. If not maybe the bilge has gone south!!! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Did he roll the craft. *The 951s had a water injestion problem. *It seems that after you roll the craft there is a 50% chance of water in the engine. *This is due to a gasket by the exhaust manifold or a loose snorkel.

Have worked on some XP's that burned a small hole in the rubber exhaust hose and would then fill with water as you ride, also ran dogge.
I have not seen any electric pumps on jet-skis, most use check ball & siphon from the jet pump to pull the water from inside, but I have not worked on the model you have.

Thanks toydoc. *The tigershark we started with and returned after 2 days had a whole in the exhaust like that and was really doggy. *This one I don't think has a whole cause its got alot of power.

The 951's had a water ingestion problemn because of engine configuration. This is something you can do hardly anything about. The chance of blowing your motor will always be there. Be prepared as I know thi personally. Get an 800 motor spx or xp in the smaller hull. Better boat by far
