poorsledder 11-29-2004, 09:18 PM Today i took the sled for a quick zip down the ditvh and i noticed my speedo light is out, can I buy a new light for this or am i going to have to stay in the dark. If so where could i get them from and about how much to pay for them.
Thanks for any help
The Hossman 11-29-2004, 09:34 PM I don't know about your sled in particular, but I changed a light in my speedo last year. It was a standard automotive '194' type, and it was concealed under a rubber grommet on the back of the speedo. Check it out, your's might be replaceable too.
poorsledder 11-29-2004, 10:00 PM allright, ill do that, i didn't even look at it yet, so thanks for the help, ill check it out tommorow.
molson24 11-29-2004, 10:49 PM I'm with the Hossman. Has happened a couple of time to me and just had to change the bulb and back in business
Russ Wheeler 11-30-2004, 08:11 PM I've changed a few speedo bulbs on 'doos, and they've always been the standard peanut bulbs The Hossman speaks of.
poorsledder 11-30-2004, 10:10 PM I just took a quick look today, and did you have to take the speedo off of the hood to get to it? it looks like mine would not be able to be changed without taking it off, and is thge bulb inside of the center rubber thing or is that where the needle sits? Also i fyou do take your speedo off do you just loosen those bolts and pull it through the front?
The Hossman 12-01-2004, 01:01 AM Again, I don't know how your Polaris is set up but... my speedo has a bracket that holds it in place. Remove the screws that hold the bracket on. Remove the speedo cable. You should be able to pull the speedo out through the dash now (well, as far as the electrical wire will allow). Check the back of it for some sort of cover or grommet, change the bulb, and you're back in business!
Garthvh 12-01-2004, 03:22 PM I had to replace the bulb on my Polaris 600, took me all of 1 minute, did not have to pull the speedo. If yours is similar, there is a wire that goes into the speedo, I beleive it is yellow and brown) there is a black rubber gasket that holds the light in place, gently pull that out and there is your bulb. Just a regular small bulb I paid $2 for.
poorsledder 12-01-2004, 06:58 PM ok I had to take it off , which in the end I found out I didn't :bash: there is a bolt that holds sit in that is ina super herd to reach place, how i got it off i do not know! Now i tried to put it on and with the help i knew that the inevitable was going to happen, i droped the locknut. I took a magnet and looked around for it but nothing, now i need to now if i can put it on with just a washer and nut, or else how can i get this locknut back, will it hurt my sled if its in a bad place? Do i have to take all kind of crap off to get it back or should I just forget it.
poorsledder 12-01-2004, 07:00 PM OK nevermind, just a few seconds ago i figured out hey, if it dropped down there it should go into this little crack, and boom.....stupid  it went right through the crack and onto the ground.

:lmao:
Whenever I take anything apart, guaranteed I drop something somewhere where it is impossible to reach with the human hand.... :D
So, I take it otherwise this little project has a happy ending?
poorsledder 12-01-2004, 09:53 PM Well finally i did get that bolt back on, and for once i think im glad that i am a pretty small guy. Since i could only get about one hand in there i knew i couldn't put all three pieces on at once, so i glued them together with tacky glue, and turned it into one piece. when it finnally was one piece i went out to try it iagain, and this time it wouldn't thread!!!!! so i got frustrated kept trying and went duh  I must be having a bad day, was turning the wrong way, so give it one twist the right way and finnaly were on. and we finnaly have on good speedometer light :)
