As some of you know, I'm putting a rear skid from an '02 Zr800 into my '96 ZR580. Thanks to BrotherD for helping me on this.

By increasing the height in the rear, I've been concerned about the handling in the front. I was told by someone that I can buy longer springs and shocks to increase the travel in the front. Has anyone done this before? How would I figure out what size shocks and springs to use? By doing this, will it help or hurt the handling?

Thanks in advance for any info!

I would think that to get more, effective travel you would need longer arms as well as longer shocks and springs. I did not do anything to my front end after installing the long travel skid frame and find nothing lacking in the front end. I'd suggest you ride the sled first and see what is going on with it before making another project to fix a problem that may not exist.

94- That's good advice. I agree, try it before changing anything. Have you had a chance to try yours yet with the new suspension? How did it ride? Handle? Did it rip trhough the trails OK?

I have five seasons on my ZL skid frame. The ride is very good. I did find it a little tippier (if that is even a word) at first, but it is an easy adjustment in body english. The wheelies are great and you just don't nail the gas in the middle of a corner. The rear end sits a lot higher when I'm not on the sled, but there is plenty of 'ride in', or sag, so the ride height is not much different than with the original suspension. I really don't remember what it was like before the suspension swap. It is so much better now. The long travel skid frame is by far the best money I've spent on the old sled.
