New to snowmobiling, new to this website.

I just bought (2) '94 Safari Deluxes 377's for my wife and I to get started. I took it to the shop before I bought it and they said they looked good. They do need some maintenance work (replace 13 track clips on one, 2 track clips on another, replace slides, carb clean, etc. ) Dealer wants about $700 bucks for parts/labor. Is this fair amount, or should I keep looking around.
What are your opinions on this sled, we don't need a speed demon to get started, just a reliable ride.

Thanks!!

Great engines super reliable

top speed in the 65mph or 110kmph range

$700  for labour on the things you described

Try and find a buddy that knows what to do and do it your self

sounds like a bit much..... you could clean the carbs yourself not hard at all, and neither is replacing track clips, but hardest would be is to change the slides........

I'm not sure if your talking Canadian or American funds but if its Canadian it sounds reasonable, certainly not cheap but reasonable..Thats $350 per sled and changing the sliders on each sled is a bit of a chore. Also changing the track clips is somewhat difficult if you don't have the tool.We use vise grips and channel locks and it works but you better eat your wheaties before you tackle it as the clips are very stiff to bend and your in a cramped position.Cleaning out the carbs is easy if you know what your doing but you could potentially damage your engine if you don't.If your not compfterable with doing it then let the dealer tackle it.The price of labour is very high these days so it doesn't take much to run up a couple hundred dollar bill on a sled.Your doing two sleds so obviously it will be double.

Thanks for your opinions. It would be around $700 American. I do have a buddy that offered to help me, but working on the 2 sleds themselves will take alot of time that I'm not sure I have. I already paif $80 to have them looked over. Ther was a couple of other things that needed fixing, I'll post them later. Thanks again, I look forward to gettin' on the trail.
Where is the best place to get the parts that I need if I plan on doing it myself?

700 american? thats sounds WAYY too high to me. You could buy another decent sled for that amount. i'd look around at different dealers and/or sled mechanics before going to that guy.

i dont know of any places in the states for parts, but i would reccomend going aftermarket as it will be cheaper than actual DOO stuff.

And, if u plan on doing it yourself, do a couple searches on cleaning carbs, changing sliders, etc.... and you will be able to do all the work yourself without a hitch, as long as you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Good Luck and if you need any help you know where to ask.

The total for labor was $450 for both sleds, rest is parts...$70/hr labor

Needs (2) wheel Idlers on one sled
total of 4 shoe runners
total of 16 cleat guides
total of 4 valve needles (what are these?)
total of 4 spark plugs
total of 4 gaskets

I think it depends on how you look at it.

If you are new to the sport and don't know much about maintenance on a sled, as well as the availability of time, then have the garage do the work.

Once you get more comfortable with the workings of a sled and it's components, you'll find more enjoyment doing the repairs yourself and you won't make a costly mistake like breaking something while taking things apart.

Like Good2Go says, just ask questions here and you will learn a great deal. I can't think of how many times this site has helped me out.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate it and hopefully as I get more into the sport, I can share some advice as well. Need to save money as I hit a deer last night with my truck....

Hey guys thanks for helping out. I found a place to do all the necessary work for $360 US, so we went with them. Now all we need is some snow....
