I will be getting a new 570Z for my 12 year old daughter in a couple weeks. Actually it will also be for my son also who is only 10 years old. It will be a Christmas gift for them. I figure they will both grow into it in a few years. At present my son is a little young to handle a 570, but my daughter who has taken the rider safety course and has proved to me that she can drive on the trails will fit well with a sled this size. I myself have a 600 REVHO, which I really like. I went with the 570Z for the kids, because it was the best all around buy that I found in a fan cooled entry level sled compared to what Ski-Doo or Polaris offered. I did initially want the 550 Fan Rev, but no Skidoo dealer would take my ZL600 in trade. It did have over 9000 miles on it and needing lots of work, so I wasn't too surprized. The AC dealer that I went to gave me a good deal with the trade of my ZL, so that made up my mind on going with the 570Z. My only concern is the fuel economy with this sled. I've heard that if it is pushed hard it likes to eat gas. Anyone have any inputs on this? Actually I can't say that my REV is exactly real great on fuel. I get around 13 to 14 mpg at best with that sled. It's been some time since I've had a fan cooled sled, so this will be a change for me. Like I said though, I wanted my kids to have a good sled to start with, so I hope that I made a good choice.

Fuel economy is a funny thing. I hear people complain about poor fuel economy and these are the same people that make the moguls in our trails. You know the people that have to spin their tracks every time they hit the throttle. As for the Z570, this is probably the fastest fan sled in production. I know we all think our kids are the best at everything they do (I know I have a ten year old) but a better choice for kids of this age would be the Z370. If you haven't taken a 570 for a spin in the snow yet you are going to be surprised of the power.

If your 570 fan is comparable to my wifes Classic 550 fan then it is alot of pep for children of that age.
As for fuel economy, it is slightly better than my 02 600 Legend, so I would put it in the 12 to 14 mpg range.
Hope the kids have fun!

I bought a 04 Z570 for my wife and she was getting better gas milage than my F6. I got my 12 year old daughter A 03 Z370 and it is just right. She rides it very good. It is not too fast or too heavy. She has had a sled since she was 4. You will need to watch your children very closely while they ride that 570. It is fast!

This is normal. The F6 is a 120hp performance orientated engine. The 570 has about 70hp. Takes fuel to make power!~~~~~~~~

Very well put. All the reviews I've read have raved about the power output of the 570, calling it the fastest of the fans.

Thanks for all yor inputs. I do realize that the 570 is kind of overpowered for a 12 year old child, but like I said for the money it was the best buy that I could get on a fan cooled sled. I'm not too concerned about the power because my daughter will never ride it unless she is with me out riding anyhow. Last season she drove my 600ZL, which I'm sure is still faster than the 570 and she was able to control that ok. In fact I was leading going at slower speeds and she stayed a proper distance away from me. As for my son, he probably won't ride it on any trails unless I'm on it with him. He has a couple years before that happens. Otherwise, I'll let him drive it in an open field to see how he does. Actually, both of my kids have had mini sleds and a AC 90 ATV. We now have a 400 BRP Outlander ATVand they both drive that real well. I guess, they know how to use a throttle and I always make them aware of the dangers of motorized recreation when not used with proper respect.
It sounds like the fuel milage won't be any worse than my REV. I don't see my daughter pushing that sled real hard anyhow. Like "black04F6" said, I'll have to keep a close watch and see how they do. Trust me, If I see it is too much for them to handle, I'll unload it and just downsize. Hell! It's a 570Z. It will hold a good resale I'm sure! Which is another reason I purchased it.

Oh yeah! I didn't mention. My daughter wanted the red Z, she doesn't like the green. The 370Z and 440Z only have green. The 570Z was offered in both colors. Why Arctic Cat didn't have the color choices for the 370 and 440 is beyond me. I would of went with the 440Z if they had Red. Go figure!

I went with the 370 for my daughter and son,,,, she was 14 at the time and he will ride it this year at 9 (soon to be 10) for the first time by himself,,,,
right now I am kicking myself in the tail for getting the 370 rather than the 440 or the 570,,,, we also tend to take this sled with us when we go up north and now we have a 370 rather than a 440 or 570 running trails with us,,,
I can easily put a block of wood under the throttle to govern the speed on the 570 for kids,,, but I sure havent figured out how to make that 370 run like a 570 though!!!!

That is a lot of sled for young people. If she wants a red sled you should try to locate a left over 2004 Cat. I have a red 2004 Z-370 and it was the only year offered in red. My dealer may have a few left overs in stock yet. By the way my sled gets 17-19 mpg and I do not ride it easy. :p Hope this helps.

All I have to say is this.

How fast do you people have to travel on trails? Half of the time I have to watch out for the idiots going too fast for trail conditions (winding through woods). The only time a Z370 is slow is if you are racing on a flat open area. For trail riding and kids these sleds are more then fast enough (60+mph). Not to mention they are inexpensive to purchase, my Z370's get anywhere from 15-18mpg, and they are lightweight and easy to move. I also have Z570's and I could not imagine putting a 10 or 12 year old on it. It only takes one joy ride while a parent is not paying attention for a kid to kill him/herself.

I never said anything about traveling fast on the trails, and you can ask many of those that ride with me here on this site, I am not a speed demon at all. I do like to kick it up in wide open fields, and down the old abondoned railway, but you wont catch me riding 100mph through the middle of the woods.
when I lost my firecat last year, and jt and I rode back to town, I was on my 370 and the 2 of us had an absolute blast,,,, but there were a couple of times that we would have liked to kick it up a little more than the 370 wanted to go.
I do agree that a 570 is a lot of pep for a youngster, but you can govern the throttle down to take care of that.
As far as the parent not paying attention, that could happen if your on ANY sled.

buy a sled for overall performance not color.....also a z570 is too fast for a 12 year old even if shes a good driver you will find that she and the 10 year old controlling the sled
