Hi All,

Just picked up an 05 900 EFI and was hoping to get some feedback on the use of oxygenated fuels. In the owners manual it says to unplug a connector going to the ECU if you are using fuels with MBTE or alcohol in them. I imagine this changes the timing. Is this necessary? I have an 03 900 and never jetted up when using oxygenated fuels as the manual suggests and have had 0 problems. Any info appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Well, what I'm guessing is in your 03 carb. it was probably jetted stock. Stock jetting from AC is on the rich side. So you probably were ok when running MBTE etc. I'm not sure about the EFI though. I think since it is that easy as unpluging the connector I would do it. I believe it just makes it run rich. Now you could run with it connected and just keep a real close eye on piston wash, plug color etc. I suppose. Just my 2 cents.

I would just leave it and check the plugs a few times for that magical cocoa brown color. And try running it both ways and see if it makes a difference in performance. We all know that when on the trail we have to buy the gas thats there. I have been driving cats with EFI since 1994 and have run every type of gas made with no problems and unplugging nothing. EFI is the best, all sleds should have it.

larry, let me give you a bit of advice....first try running the sled for a couple tanks of fuel before you start removing electrical connections. the sled is brand new, run it, and please watch out for THE rock on the edge of 1st lake. you know, the one with all the green paint all over it.........

I was told buy a Cat mechanic that if the temp was -20 or more I should richen it up just to be safe w/oxygenated fuel.I tried it both ways last year and it seemed burbly off idle w/it richened. Also ran 89 octane w/out problems.
