: Bike shopping
800MXZ 07-10-2002, 11:42 PM I am going to buy a bike this fall or next spring and am looking at these 2 bikes. I have demo ridden a VTX and love that torque, but have yet to ride a Warrior. The specs on the bikes are this:
VTX
1800
FI
120 ft lbs
106 HP (rear wheel)
705 lbs
Warrior
1607
FI
108 Ft Lbs
80HP (rear wheel)
608 lbs
Give an opinion if you would, especially if you have ridden both!
800MXZ 07-11-2002, 12:05 AM Honda VTX
800MXZ 07-11-2002, 12:07 AM Yamaha Warrior
The VTX of course.
1. Its a Honda
2. More ponies
3. The bike resembles Arnold Schwartzenager.

Machzzzz1 07-11-2002, 10:23 AM I would go with the Yamaha.
Judging by the picture it looks like it has a bigger gas tank and a mono shock in the rear. *
And just being a honda means nothing, *I have had the most greif from Toyota and Honda products. *And if there customer service is total, and I mean total crap. *When my honda outboard threw blew up on me it spilled oil and crap into the lake. *I was so emmbarrissed because of all the rainbow water that was comming of the engine. *All people nearby saw it, *It was like the exxon valdis. *I had the engine for less the 5 months, *I did not get honda to fix it, *They claimed I abused the motor buy running in weeded areas. *What the #### is that, *THanks but no thanks HOnda..
800MXZ 07-11-2002, 10:51 AM I am asking about bikes, not outboards. No offense, but that is the only bad Honda comment I have ever heard. I wrench and go to the drag strip with the head tech. at the local marina. They have been a Honda out borad dealer and says they are fabulous. Other than some idiot reapairs (water in gas, etc...) they are very happy with them. Very low amount of repairs.
When I was younger we bought a 87 Yamaha Warrior and after three months the sprokets, chain, and axle bearings where all worn out. Nothing covered under warrenty. When all of the motor mounts broke a month after that, the old man took it back and made the dealer eat it (we had bought a Shadow, my Brother bought a V65 Magna, and my dad bought a Gold Wing from them). They came back with the new 250R (new design that year). We could not kill that thing. High strung 2 stroke and 4 years of HARD riding and we put in a new piston for good measure. Other than tires, and a set of sprokets/ chain after a couple of years, the thing was flawless.
These are the reasons I am nervous about shopping elsewhere. I have no interest in a Harley, but want some big torque. The VTX actually holds more fuel (4.8 gal. vs. 4.0).
Machzzzz1 07-11-2002, 01:40 PM Well go ahead and buy the honda then. *I think it looks better then the yamaha anyway. *
However i do think that all products a company make reflect the company. *Sure outboards have problems and bikes have problems. *But it was the way i was treated that pissed me off. *I go honda generators that have 0 problems but thats not the point. *I got into a phone argument with some guy at honda and ever since then im having a boycot against them. *
I mean what kind of company voids warrenty because of running thru weeds. *
Also i have heard a lot of negitive comments about honda. *There newer atvs have the worst brakes and are hard to put into reverse. *This is not first hand this is just what i heard.
Anyway out of the two bikes i would go with the honda it looks better.
800MXZ 07-11-2002, 02:03 PM Peace man. I hope it was a Honda Rep out in Toronto, not the one I would have to work with.
If I buy the VTX, I will be getting it from the same place I buy my sleds. They have taken very good care of me before, and I am sure they would do what they could on the bike.
I just want to know if anyone has seen/ gone for a ride on the Warrior. I think they both look good, but totally different from each other.
Machzzzz1 07-11-2002, 05:59 PM If i were you I would bring my buissness to they guys i buy my sleds of, of. *The more buissness you give them the better your treated overall. *Plus you like the bike.
dooman 07-11-2002, 06:37 PM I would buy the victory v-92sc instead of the yammy or honda.take one for a ride and you'll see why,one of the nicest riding bikes I have ever rode.the nicest being the v-92c.I know a dealer here that has a couple left over models for around 9,000 u.s.I know zmachman would agree with me he has 2 of the victorys.I have ridin the honda and do not like the rev limiter on it seems to hit it to fast.
800MXZ 07-17-2002, 10:41 AM I was in Grand Rapids yesterday and stopped by Shawmut Hills to look at both bikes. After waiting 45 min in the showroom (I guess you need a wad of $100's sticking out of your pocket to garnish the attention of the salespeople) I asked allot of questions. Of course they would not let me test ride the Warrior (@#$*@$^) but several things were pointed out to me that the Honda has that the Yamaha didin't.
The Honda has a hydraulic clutch (smooth with very light pull), shaft drive, (warrior has belt), linked braking (pushing down on the rear brakes applies some pressure to the front brakes), adn liquid cooled vs. the Yamaha air cooled.
Looking at both bikes side by side the VTX makes the Warrior look like a kids bike. The Honda is just dominating sitting next to it.
I have made up my mind to go after the VTX, now just for that danged ol' money stuff.....
800MXZ 07-19-2002, 03:35 PM Looks like I am going to pick the bike up on Sat or Mon!! Can't wait!!.
