: Does anybody know
maluchm 07-11-2002, 12:16 PM This was my first sled and the pic was taken many years ago.
I would like to restore one of these some day but I have no
idea what model it is. Can anybody tell me what it is from
the picture? Thanks!
zrgreen 07-11-2002, 02:31 PM Not 100 % certain, but I believe it is an Olympic (Olympique), if not, maybe an Elan?
maluchm 07-11-2002, 03:08 PM I'm thinking that it is a 1974 Olympic but not sure at all!
One thing I doo know is that the little sucker took a huge
BEATING before she finally gave in. And
i've been hooked on Doo's ever since.
FishHog 07-11-2002, 03:56 PM I agree, looks like an Olympic to me.
I grew up on a 68' and it took a beating also. *
good luck, I'm sure you can find one to restore. *I have seen a few of them for sale.

Team_Arctic 07-11-2002, 04:26 PM i was goin to say elan but i guess its a olympic http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *shows how much i know about skidoo hehe
maluchm 07-12-2002, 05:41 PM Maybe this? A 1971 Nordic!
What do you guys think?
Snowmobiler53901 07-13-2002, 01:27 AM i dont know they look the same except the ski-doo logo on the side.. *it could be just a different year maybe..
maluchm 07-13-2002, 11:29 AM That's exactly what I was thinking too. And I don't
exactly remember the grab bar on the front but it
probably just broke off early on. I rolled it a lot
and even snapped a ski off. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
revrnd 07-13-2002, 09:53 PM My ski-doo reference book isn't here, but I would guess around '71 or '72.
alscool 07-14-2002, 11:22 AM i had a 72 Olympic. and the first pic is not a 72. *it is similar but i did not have the side vents on the hood. *it is very similar otherwise with the pop up light, front fill gas door, ect.
i'm guessing newer, 1973 Olympic
maluchm 07-15-2002, 09:41 AM Hey thanks guys! It kind of bums me out that I only have the
one picture to go by but at least I have that right. On my
usual route to work I noticed that one of the old barns has
a couple old Ski doo's near the front door that might just
be what I'm looking for so I think I might jusy stop by and
chat with the farmer. Maybe he will trade me for my 1969
Olympoc.
sleddinfool 07-15-2002, 11:58 PM I think it is a 71 nordic The oly's do not have te vnt on the side and the elan's are much smaller. I knw the tnthad the same hood but *different seat/back. Kevin
sleddinfool 07-15-2002, 11:59 PM I think it is a 71 nordic The oly's do not have te vnt on the side and the elan's are much smaller. I knw the tnthad the same hood but *different seat/back. Kevin
its a 71 nordic for sur !
Look at the pic, its the only one with the vents like yours and that is the only year they did it like that !
maluchm 07-16-2002, 02:59 PM Thanks everybody! Survey says....DING....1971 Ski Doo Nordic
NOw I just need to find one and the extra time for a
restoration project.
Team_Arctic 07-17-2002, 01:15 AM jeez dan where do you dig up all those old posters they always come in handy at times like this !! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
maluchm 07-17-2002, 02:31 PM I'll bet a bottle of CROWN it cam from vintageskidoo.com!
What do ya say Dan? *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
most of them doocome form vintagesleds.com. * i also have a few other sites that have good pics of old sleds.
SnowmoKING 07-17-2002, 11:56 PM I know alot about old sleds and that is a Ski Doo Nordic. *Not sure of the year but looks like a 71? *According to that poster http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
revrnd 07-25-2002, 11:46 AM According to Phil Mickelson's Ski-doo Buyers Guide, the '70 Nordics had black hood vents & the '71s had yellow vents.
then how come this picture of the 71 line up has the black vents ?
revrnd 07-29-2002, 08:56 PM I should have said the whole recessed area around the vent is yellow. the vents appear black in the pic., but on closer inspection, they'll be yellow.
XLTSP 08-03-2002, 11:40 AM Check this pic from vintageskidoo.com and notice the url title
vintageskidoo.com (http://www.vintageskidoo.com/Ski_Doo/1971/71NORD01.jpg)
anteater 08-17-2002, 04:36 PM it is a 71 just looked it up in one of my ski-doo books.they vents look black in the above picture because remember it was 1971 when taken and shadows can change appearance
snodrifter 08-17-2002, 11:37 PM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif 71 NORDIC-probably a 399 cc. The 640 had a different console on it. The 399 had a button that you pushed to open *a woodgrain dash panel that gave access to the carb. The 640 was hinged at the bottom and the entire console swings open from the top. The 71 also had the yellow hood louvers in each side. the 70 model had black louvers. I would appear the NORDIC picture that has been posted has 1970 louvers in the hood. It would also be an electric start!
We had a 399 71 nordic up to 3 years ago and it did look exacly the same as your picture. That sled must of been the longest lasting ever to be able to withstand what we did to it. Never had a problem except for starting it in cold -40 weather but the windex bottle full of gas toke care of that problem http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif And the best thing was that it could be tuned at WOT cause the carb and screws were right in front so jetting was always bang on (gotta love those tillotson carbs) *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
maluchm 08-19-2002, 03:58 PM Snodrifter - It did have the push button realease for the
carb access. It was electric start. And it was wood grained.
Also had a cigarette lighter in the dash as well. Had a nice
hinged bracket under the rear bumber that we'd tie up to and
tow things, and people, around with.
AC - like I said, the one I had for a long time (with NO
maintanence) was like the Energizer bunny. It kept going,
and going and...........
It used to rip up my old snow suites from the clutch
spinning around right by my ancle. It had the lever for the
headlight that would flip up out of the hood too.
Well now that I've got the year and model pegged, does
anybody in my area wana trade one for a 69 Olypic???
007oodiks 08-21-2002, 12:54 AM you need to pick you`re brain a little more.If I rember right the nordic had a wide track and the seat lifted to one side for storage. dDo you rember if it had slides or boggie`s that will help hone on the age.good luck wish I had some old photos like that to show. * * jeff in nh
maluchm 08-21-2002, 01:08 PM I remember it having a standard track with just the storage
in the rear. Don't remember sliders either but if it did
have them, they weren't anygood for about the last 4-5 years
of service that the old girl went through.
73TXStarfire 08-21-2002, 01:41 PM It's a 1971 Nordic. There are pics at www.vintageskidoo.com. Art
snodrifter 08-21-2002, 09:04 PM They came standard with bogies--slides were optional. Track was 18" wide. Tool box was in backrest at the rear. Battery was also in the backrest, making storage area pretty small. Many people would move the battery *under the hood on the right side. *The battery probably also lasted longer since it did't get bounced around quite as much.
