i own a 2000 silveradi 1500... now i bought it used in exelent condition.. no problems with it when i got it with 20,000 miles... but over the summer id notice between 3-7miles an hour when you hit the breaks the ABS would engage on ONE front wheel only... causingme to loose stopingpower... almost hit someone actully... i took itinto my local garage and they knew what it was.. charged me nothing for diagnostics the only thing they didnt know is which front wheel it was.. so i had to take it to chevy.. aftef charging me $97 to LOOK at it.. they told me the same hting except they knew it was the driver side wheel... $500 dollars later i had a new speed sencor and havnt seen the problem... well here is my killer... i was doing some reachers a few weeks ago and found out this was a HUGE issue on silverados, and sierras made in Canada,.. ok i boughtmy truck in northen maine... so i go out to it and opem the drivers door and it says "bulit by GM of canada inc." bingo this should haveb een recalled because there was a recall in Canada on this issue.... well i call chevy and they gaveme some good B.S "um well i dont know about that recall im in the u,s and your vehicle was made in canada but not intended for canadian use" are you kidding me lady? it was made there y isnt it affected... oh well... after more reachers i fouund ot the canadian dealers are told to CLEAN not relace the speed sensor.. because its from corrosion... now i wonder if my dealer really changed it or what? anyways my question is has any one else experienced this issue? thanks...

The ABS wheel speed sensor recall has not hit the ground yet officially. The best way to repair the problem is to have the dealer diagnose the front wheel speed sensors by connecting a scan tool and doing figure 8s in a parking lot at slow speeds. When the bad sensor is confirmed it should be replaced and the bore that allows the sensor to read the reluctor wheel on the hub cleaned up. Applying wheel bearing grease will extend the life of the sensor. The major problem is corrosion putting the squeeze on the sensor. Another way to test the senors is:
#1 Raise and support the vehicle.
#2 Disconnect both the front wheel speed sensor connectors at the frame and harness.
#3 Place a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) across the terminals of each wheel speed sensor connector.
#4 Rotate the wheel clockwise approximately one revolution per second. The minimum reading should be at least 350 ACmV's. If the reading is less than 350 ACmV's, remove the wheel speed sensor. Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement is necessary.

I'm not a 100% sure, but I don't think the problem is w/ Canadian built trucks.

It's probably more to do with the salt used in snow removal on the roads.

My brother's 2000 K2500 has had @ least 1 of the sensors replaced & it was built @ either Fort Wayne or Pontiac.

Exact same thing happened to my 2002 GMC 1500. What mine was, was a damaged tooth that the speed sensor reads off from. I have heard of both cases causing problems. Either sensor or assembly. My truck was just out of warranty when mine went and cost me about $240 american. I was really upset when I started to research the problem and read how many people had the same issue. Its pretty bad when GMC can gamble and figure the cost of solving the problem will be more expensive then paying out warranty repair costs.

The part that really got me going was the way in which the truck failed to stop. If I had been coming to a busy intersection ( luckily mine failed in the work parking lot ) I would of rolled right out into the middle . Now is this my fault the brakes failed like this ....... would it be my fault if got killed or killed someone ...... absolutely and not a damn thing I could do about it !!!!!!

I've had three GMC and they have all been great to me, now with a engine nock ( thats normal ! :bash: ) and brakes that can fail at any moment, I'm loosing faith fast !

Mine just started doing that last week. I talked to the dealer last week and they said to pull out the sensor and file where it seats in. Just take the rust off and a hair of material, I did this and problem fixed.
