Did the pipe manufacturer say the 600 pipes will work on the 500 motor?
I was considering putting a super single on my 500 but the pipe was originally designed for the 600 and d&d said motor damage would occur.
They said the expansion chamber volume is different between the 500 and 600 pipes.
Now this is for a d&d single pipe, so I am unsure of the results of twins, but be careful.

No offence to your Boss but I'd contact the pipe mfg to be sure. No sense burning it down over a set of pipes.

Hello Hardy,

I had a set of black magic twins on my 98 ZL500 as well. The instructions say that they are for 98 - 00 ZR/ZL 500/600 carb or EFI, so i would say that there should be no problem. What year 600 were they from? If you have the pipes designed for the non powervalve(98-00) engine they should work fine. you will have to get a clutch kit for it, black magic sells one, otherwise the pipes will make no power. Of course you do not have to buy a clutch kit from Black Magic. The instructions also say that you should go up a main jet size. If you go to black magics website at: http://www.blackmagicracing.com/2002pages/...Twins-specs.htm (http://www.blackmagicracing.com/2002pages/TechSupport/Instructions/500Twins-specs.htm)
There are some jetting and clutching specs. I hope all this helps. If I were you I would figure out exactly what set of pipes you have, just to be safe. You can also email Black Magic and ask them, they would know the best. Hope this helps some. The best thing to do would be to talk to Black Magic as mentioned above.

if they physically fit, it can be properly jetted to run fine

well yesterday adn went and put in some 350 jets pretty big but i put them in adn took it for a rip and i tell you somepeople say pipes help others say waste of money but i say best investment i have made for the sled my buddy drives a identical sled and he i spretty jealous because i he can see is my little tale light through the snow cloud so now i just have to get for the pipes and giver! o ya one more question i put 38 miles on and i burn 3/4 of a tank of fuel and he burnt 1/4 so do u think the pipes might have effected the fuel economy or is it the large jets? thanks guys/gals

Yes, those pipes on my sled were great too! I have beaten a 99 ski doo 700 with those pipes on my 98 ZL 500. They really woke up my 500. I had 350 main jets in my ZL 500 also. What kinda of silencer do you have? Do you have the race one or the quiet can. My pipes came with the loud (race can) and it got terrible gas milage i would say 7 or 8 miles per gallon? I think once i put the quiet can on the milage was better than it was before maybe 12 per gallon or so? You could have different results than I did though. If you dont have the quiet can you can buy a used 94 ZR 700 can (I think these sleds came stock with twin pipes) and relocated the mounting braces and it will bolt right up in your stock location. This is the same can that black magic uses as their quiet can for these pipes and they sell the can for 150. I bought mine for 30 dollars and it worked great. Very quiet too. Good Luck.

ya when i purchased the pipes i got the quiet canister with them for a extra $50 dollars so i took it just in case i did not like the race ones but the sound pretty awseome when you put those pipes on did you do anything with you clutches and if so what springs and weights and all that did you put in? mine is still stock
