http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Ext 580 now has 4575 miles on, gets 6.5 miles to the gallon and uses oil.
*It use to get 11 miles to the gallon.
*It still runs good , but the gas and oil consumption is a problem.
*The computer shows no problem.
*Sensors test good.
*Injectors cleaned.
*Clutches have been serviced, also last year (2001) new ramps, springs ect installed.
*Just got back from Wildhorse resevor, had it up to 95 mph
*across the frozen resevor.
*The machiune runs good, just burns gas and oil. *http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I think you were luckly to ever get 11mpg. *My 580 never got better than 8mpg. *580 have always been fuel pigs.

But if you have noticed that big of a difference, something must have changed. *But it doesn't make sense thats its using more oil also. *Fuel and oil are separate systems, so they both shouldn't have changed.

Are you getting less top end, or worse performance. *Perhaps its not an engine related issue, and your just working the engine harder to compensate (like a clutch problem)

I would tend to agree with Fish hog..... if you haven't done any maintenance on your clutches since you've owned it, you might want to have the dealer or someone take a look at them to make sure everything is kosher.... My fathers 580 EFI pantera had the same problem, lost top end and started using oil, turns out, the guy we sold it to, who we told of the problem and said you may want to have the clutch fixed, blew the motor.....well, his son did, not letting the motor warm up and gunning it...... **shakes his head**
