:cussing: HELP!!
Last year I went through 5 belts in the course of 1500 miles. The motor alignment was checked every time, at the cost of $100.00 per check, although I purchased an extended warranty with my sled.
This year, again, I'm blowing through belts. My sled has been in the dealership twice and I've only been able to ride it twice. When it was in for repair, the cam slides were replaced on the secondary clutch, at a cost to me, once again.
Can anyone give me any ideas as to what is wrong with my sled? :bash:
Maybe I can give the dealership a clue?? I have just about had it with it!!!!
Thanks!

Did you take the windage plates off the secondary? They cover front and back cooling ribs and should be off for anyone riding deep snow or hillclimbing - anything that puts a lot of strain on your clutches.

PS - Find a new dealer; those guys sound CLUELESS!!!

I agree with gman086 about the plates and finding a dealer that knows what their doing.
Did you break the belts in (it takes about 50km/30miles)?

Not to scare you or anything, but my brother's mxz 670 started eating belts like mad. I'm his mechanic, so i aligned the clutches, checked belt tension, pulled both primary and secondary, replaced springs, and misc bushings all not helping a bit!! he was getting like 300miles out of a belt.
Turns out, his crank bearings were going, and he had some PTO diflection becuase of it. We noticed it was running wierd late last year, so i talked him into a total rebuild. Splite the case and the outter bearing had no cage and 1/4 of the ball bearings were GONE!! mystery solved? for my brother anyway.

Check out your motor mounts. They could also be a likely culprit.

Wow that's some extended warranty! After riding a little while raise the hood and feel the clutches to see how hot they are. Belt slippage will cause the clutches to run hot and belt life will drop.

2 choices, lose the 127 belt and run an 067 or fix the clutching.
Your clutches are getting hot thus letting belt get hot then you stop and it cools and belt gets harder then becomes britle and wrecks it.
I always ran the 067 belts and then worked on clutching and never had a problem.

One other thing that can eat belts, depending on your riding style, is a secondary not being able to fully shift out thus not allowing the belt to be "long" enough for the primary. If you got a belt that hasn't blown check the side of the cogs if they have little curved splits in them you are getting belt slippage, a harder belt or not enough secondary preload will cause slippage as well, good luck
