The only problem I know of is the timing chain can slap against the timing cover when the mileage gets high, the chain stretches beyond the tension devices. This will be a "rap" in then engine hot or cold when jazzing the throttle, if let go it can wear through the cover or cause chain breakage. My brother has an 89 and it is a beater so he has elected not to fix it but it does exactly this, other than that he has 185k miles on it with barely any other problems.

well these days your not gonna get much for 1500 bucks, if you like it, go and get an estimate to fix the "rap" and see if you can forge out a deal, good luck.

If u want a good old truck to pound get the toyota because they are tough. *i have a 90 4x4 and its great i have had it for 6 years and now have 235,000 kms on it and the most i have put into it is brakes and mufflers, and my buddy has an 89 4x4 with over 200,000 kms and his is also tough as nails, we put the sleds abord the back and get into some tight spots to go sledding. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

If it has the 22r motor it would be worth 1550. They are pretty much bullet proof. I had an 86 turbo with 230000km on it and it ran like a top. Also had an 82 with 245000km that wouldn't die. Toyotas are known for the boxes rusting allot. I'm not 100% sure of the year that they went to a one piece box and new metal, but I know my 86 had a seam that rusted and had used recycled metal.

I had had one from the 80's can't remember the exact year but it was tough, I had big mud tires on it and went four wheeling alot, I remember putting a few clutches in it, most likely due to the big tires and mud, but like others have said the rear body rusted out pretty bad, but it was two piece, other than that bullet proof.

You see a lot of 4x4 muddin' Toyotas that are pretty old, and they always seem to have a homemade flatbed on them.

Buy it! It's nothing to do a break job your self on that truck. and if your half way mechaniclly inclined than changing the timmeing chain will be easy also. They are rock solid trucks. Sure there are a few with gremlins but I'd never paa a good deal on one. I've seen alot of small block chevys installed in them also. And parts abound for them.
