Just wanted pass on to all that the people at the Sprucedale Hotel are really great people. We were on a late nite ride, heading back to Huntsville and needed gas after hitting some closed feeder trails. We made it to the local gas station/general store just before 7 PM. The sign said open til 7. It was closed!! We went down to the Hotel and got something to eat and asked if by chance he( Mike, the bar tender) had some gas around in cans we could buy. He said no he didnt but he looked at his clock and said the gas stop should have been open as it was just 7. He called the owner of the station and told him our predicament. He said to shoot right down and someone would be there to give us gas. A young fella was there and we gassed up and tipped him and left. Next time anyones there, its nice to know theres still small town people ready to help out sledders. The Hotel fella said hes going to try and get the staion to set different hours to better accomodate sledders seeing theres no gas anywheres else around. We filled up in Kearney but we were going the other way. There also used to be gas in Novar but it burned down we were told.

Nice story. I wonder if the young fella that gassed you up was suppose to be there until seven anyways???? :D
It's the same here in Pointe Au Baril, the local Shell station closes during the winter at 7pm. Strange.

It's great to see this "small town" service... we ran out of gas late one night near McKellar and the Shell station opened for just for us (they live there, I think) and lent us a jerry can.

RR- good to hear from you. Glad you got the sled up and running, just in time for the warm temps and rain. Yes we were on the Seguin Trail. It might as well been closed as it was in terrible shape when we rode it.I think the part that was closed is nearer to Parry Sound. I did see another post where it had been groomed but sure as heck wasn't when we rode it. Keep in touch. Moosenee???? HMMMMM!!!

I think I was weened at the Sprucedale hotel. The first time I was there was during the Deer Hunt of 1975. I was there for the annual "Hunter's Ball" What a hoot! I remember asking the people if they had rooms for snowmobiling. We went That was before anyone even heard of a groomer. No permits required, bombing all over the place on tiny unmarked trails. Never ever saw a cop let alone a warden. We used to go their maybe 2-3 times ayear for many years until I bought my own cottage
Those are the years of snowmobiling that I dearly miss. Not this high tech go fast, cop on every corner crap they have now. Once 3 of us went up there with 5 sleds and only came back with one running, I remember one year we had 11 people crammed into the front room upstairs.
You have to spend the night there to appreciate that place. You havent seen Sprucedale till you have been upstairs. Everybody shares one washroom.

Its still one of my fav places. Luckily my cottage is only 10 minutes away, so I don't need to stay there. I have seen the upstairs a few times however.
Still a riot during deer/moose seasons. Although they have added strippers for a couple nights during each season. Somehow, I don't want to see what kind of talent the Sprucedale attracts. Might be more to Yarek's liking.

Hi Pete,
Glad to here you have been up this way sledding. The Sprucedale Hotel holds alot of memories. We have a small cabin about 10 minutes away from there. We would have a boys weekend up there in the fall and go hunting and always stop by the Hotel. Last time we were up about 4 yrs ago I believe the new owers took over and they seemed very nice.
Pete I am really happy with the trailer. Went out for one good run with the sled from Kennisis Lake to Barrys Bay and back when the weather was good. Now it has rained and we will just have to wait.
