I bought a summit 500 1997.... on the motor its written RAVE but rave arn't there?!?!

Is it possible that the other owner took it off ... he told me he did something so he could get better gas mileage. he didn't care about perfomance.

If yes, is it as simple as buying some and put it on or ill have to reajuste Carbs?

tks alot!

if you are not sure if you have to adjust the carburetors are you sure the RAVE valves aren't there ?

I don't know why the previous owner would think the RAVE valves would cause poor mileage  .

If you were to remove the RAVE valves, you would also have to plug the passageways that the guillotines slide in.

Also, for the Rotax motor gurus out there is it possible the cylinders for that motor were cast but not machined for RAVE valves? Similiar to the cylinders used in the '94 MXZx kit?

yes kris

the 96 SLS/GT/Summit and 97 Formula 500/Summit/GT had the rave castings on the cylinders

But they did not have the RAVE valves

I have a pic of that in one of my 1996 Supertrax mags and them saying Skidoo may install the raves in later models because of the catsing of the 494 cylinders

I've got a 96' 500 Summit and it has the casting for the valves, but no valvea either. If I remember correctly, Doo didn't put the valves in the 500 until the 1998 model. Anyway don't sweat it, the valves were designed more for improved torque curve than added HP. Alot of people that have driven sleds with both motors have said, the non valve motor seemed stronger.
Hope that helps?.

Yeah tks a lot... its a 1997 thats why... I wasn't sure if the 97 had the Rave or not. So as Sagebrush said..... Rave Valve doesn't help taht much?

on dyno

the non rave 500 was 89-90hp

the Rave 500 was 94hp

but from field reports it seems the non rave was way better clutched and geared
