Just took my sled in to the shop, as my temp light was flashing. First off they thought it was the power valve motor, as it wasn't turning. When they checked it they ruled that out and thought it might be the ECU (which I had replaced last year - a $400 Cad touch). then thought it could be a piston but when I told them about double then expected fuel consumption on the most recent tank of gas they thought the gauge might be acting funny. When they did some jiggling around the engine compartment the tach went out, leading to the last diagnosis of a short in the wiring harness.

It seems to me that I've read some posts on here that this is a fairly common trait to the 99 SRXs. Anybody know if there are any secondary problems which can occur when you've got this problem (ie. could this cause my new ECU to blow out, could I get weird fuel flow and melt a piston etc.).

It took all of last season to finally get the ECU problem diagnosed, after multiple trips to the shop (almost after every weekend of riding). Anything else related I should be getting them to check over while it's there getting the harness changed, so I can avoid weekly trips to the shop this year?

the wiring harness under the motor seems to ground out cause of rubbing , i have seen a couple of them , need to lift up motor and get to work , i think it starts with the fuel guage acting up, then it shuts down, just a thought, good luck :)

Thanks. Anybody else have any other ideas?
