I'm about to swap the 600 triple from a 96' XLT two up into the 1 person version that had a blown engine, and i'm wondering what I can do to the engine and maybe the suspension with 800 bucks? I would like to make it handle as good as I possibly can, and just do as much as I can to the engine without compromising reliability and not going extrmely hardcore and expensive. Also, is there anyhting I could do to lose some weight off of it? thanks for any help.

buy an edge rear skid and ask mhicks how to install it. itll be the best $400 you can spend on that sled. mike

Thanks for the replies, the edge conversion sounds really nice, has someone already asked about it and maybe I could just serach for it?

First time posting picture. Hopefully, you'll get an idea of what your sled would look like.

Gotta agree here, take some time and ask around, there are some awefully knowledgable ppl about this stuff on the forum. Tifa is definately one of them, although he needs a little squeezing before he gives out help. Also Michahicks, I assume you had the Xtra 10 on that sled beforehand, how much of an improvement is it? I enjoy the Xtra 10 as it is, nice and stiff. I do however get alot of ski lift out of a corner or for that matter anytime I get on the throttle. I assume this is due to my engine, and there isn't much I can do. I have ridden my friends 600XCSP edge, I like it but really doubt how it will perform in my heavy triple. I am not lookin for a plush ride, more of an agressive ride. Can you give a testamonial on how well this performs?

One last thing, I agree that Pipes do make these things fly, but I have heard they can be unreliable with them. I have a few friends that run this setup and really cook, with no problems, but the story is out there.

That XCR has had the stuff run out of it, and had 4 seperate suspensions under it at one time or another. Started out as an Xtra, went to M-10, then a 121" Edge conversion, and as you see it now with the 136" Edge conversion. Yes, there are a few extra holes in the tunnel, and yes, I've had the chance to learn/compare them all - while in use on the same sled. One that I'm used to.

It's been the machine that I've used to figure out what works, and what doesn't, for the last couple of years. This is it's third season for me, and it's finally getting around to how I think it should be. A little more work on the clutching and front springs should do it.

The Edge suspension works, 'nuff said. If you like the Xtra, the Edge will blow you away. Weight transfer and coupling are even easier to control, as are spring/sag control. There's more holes..... all you have to do is figure out what the heck they all do. Or just ask, maybe I've been there - but maybe not.

Shocks can make or break the sled. Clickers are great, but so is a set of shocks that have been valved for your riding style.

<<<I assume this is due to my engine>>>
Nope. Sounds like stiff ski and middle spring settings. Ski springs because of the inside ski lift (you are always going to get this - but it should be happening at speeds fast enough to scare you). Light front end is likely caused by a middle spring with a little to much tension, or RRSS set too far back from rocker/scissor/whatever you want to call it.
Riding buddy is still on a 98 XCR7. That machine is very well setup for trail, and very difficult, if not impossible, to outrun with my 800's.

I could possibly get a 121" edge from a friend off his xc500, should I go for that or wait for a 136?

You start with a 121" Edge. If you want to do the 136" thing, you add a kit to the 121". Everything you'll need is like 150. or so for the kit.

That 500 isn't going to have much going for it in the shock department. I'd pass on it for that reason, unless it were VERY cheap.

I'm not sure if he knows it's a kit, he thinks it's the full system. His grandpa is the founder of Polaris though so maybe he can help me out by just getting a full system from his uncle.

the best thing i did with my 600 triple was pull the pipes off,i punched her out 20 thousands and put in wiseco pro lite kit, with slp heads and airbox, some Erlandson clutch springs.with the stock pipe on it will give my zrt a hell of a good run, with awesome low end snort(stock pipe).
also very, very, reliable.will never give her up.
look on e-bay for some deals.
