My friend just found a 93' XLT that has a siezed motor (600 triple) and we are wondering if we can put one of the 600 triples from my 2-up XLT's, we would probably use the 1996 one. And while im at it, will the 600 triple from my 98' 2-up fit in my 97' XLT, I want to make sure before I sell the 96' motor to him...Thanks for any help.

Yes, it should be a very straightforward installation, though the more complete you sell the motor, the easier it will be. The carbs and clutching are slightly different, so if he gets those as well it will make life easy.
Is the 96 in the evolved chassis? If so he may need to use the motor-mount plates from his 93.
My dad gave me the touring ones so we are just taking the engines out of those and putting them in none touring frames that had blown engines. I had a feeling it would fit but just wanted to check.
