I have a 2000 MXZ 700 (non DPM) and it seems like I have to replace the plugs everytime it sits for a couple weeks. I can ride it for a couple hours and the plugs will look good, but then 2 weeks later after its sat they are black and wet. If I'm riding and I shut it off it takes about 3 pulls for it to start again (if I'm lucky) even if it was only off for 10 minutes. Also, when I start it cold it has some brown smoke.
I had the fuel pump replaced a couple months ago and the guy cleaned the carbs and told me when he put it all back together he adjusted it to the current temp which was around 40*F at the time. Most of the time when I ride its 10-35*F.
Nothing was changed other than the fuel pump and whatever settings there are when you remove the carbs. The jets and everything else are the same.
What should I be looking for to find out what the problem is? Anything I should check? What are the dangers of running rich?

I dont think there is really any danger of running too rich, except you are not as efficient on gas and oil. Also go thru a lot of spark plugs too....as you probably know

Thanks. Just as long as its not too lean. I dont want anything blowing up on me. And if I remember correctly, the 700's have a problem with not enough oil or something which creates bottom end problems. Will running slightly rich help prevent engine problems? I just checked my plugs after a long ride today and they are nice and brown on the tip and black around the edge of the threads.
What kind of adjustments can I make to lean it out just a little besides re-jetting?

Did you have this problem before you had it serviced? Sounds to me like its flooding some how. Possibly a leaky needle and seat or a incorrectly adjusted choke cable. Maybe the cause for the "brown smoke" as well. let us know what you find. Good luck

Could the oil injection system be pumping too much oil into the engine?

I had this problem before it was serviced and we thought it was a bad fuel pump that may have been letting fuel leak by so we replaced it. The guy has been a mechanic on small engines for over 30 years and owns a business with his father dealing in all kinds of recreational vehicles. I trust that everything was put back together correctly because of his experience and because the problem was there before he worked on it. Maybe I just dont pull it fast enough when I start it. I'm a little guy pulling a big motor so maybe thats the problem?

It is possible it could be pumping to much oil. But it doesn't quit make sense to me. you said after riding a while it clears it self up and your plugs look good. If it was an oil pump problem id think you would be rich all the time. So you said while it sits for a couple weeks it gets loaded up? my guess is the same as before, but i am just an amateur. lol.
