:cussing: After adding more firewood to the fireplace, I learned that red hot ashes falling from your chimminey is bad... :withstupid: Can't use fireplace untill it is replaced... So the local firechief says anyway.

Underdog what exactly happened? There have been a couple houses burn down near me on #620 so far this winter already. I also burn with wood and have a propane furnace as back up. I cleaned my chimney out at the beginning of the season and cleaned it again after burning a bit over a bushcord. Speaking of that I am cold, time to get it stoked again<<slave to woodstove. IS your chimney brick or Metal piping? I had to upgrade mine when i moved in as it was out of code. Thank god I have a good buddy with his WET papers.

Ya the chimey needs to be cleaned once and awhile sounds like you have a bad kreosote build-up (not sure if I spelled it right) doent hurt to let the fire roar every now and again, the biggest problem comes from choking the fire right down all the time, to save on wood And if the pipe needs replacing spend money on the better insulated stuff it lasts longer and helps prevent fires where they're not supposed to be
