Where i live... We have lots of snow but rarely fresh powder... due to climate.... snow is kinda hard:S hard to explain:S and Thats why i don't care having a small 500 into my summit.
The first owner had a Rack and electrique starter so .. now everything is off.
Now i decided to start some weight reduction... I order Camoplast skis.. only 4.6 lbs!!! and i plan to buy a new pipe(can save about 5lbs there) and next winter maybe a new Track... lighter.
Any other idea... i thought about a Seat but some times i get to ride with my girlfriend so I need it to be as long...
Any other ideas or things you did?
By the way my sled is a 1997 summit 500 w/o rave

There are a few big places to cut weight the other places just are a pound here and there. Skis, Track, Suspension (going to a mountain skid from someon like Fabcraft ect.), Seat, Hood, Exhaust. The can will save you some weight. A BOSS seat will save you alot of weight probably 15 pounds compared to a damp stock seat. Suspensions are expensive. Hood is a cheap easy way to cut weight buy making your own mesh hood. Othewise replacing parts with aluminum or plastic helps to but gets expensive and no major gains.

I haven't done it yet but plan to before I head out west again. My reasoning is to save weight and the cost to build one is alot less then replacing my hood incase I wreck it which is quite possible out west.
What it amounts to is you either take conduit, aluminum tube, or aluminum flat iron and make a skeleton shaped like your hood and then cover it with a material like textaline.

slp twin pipes loose some weight
put on a holtz racing front end with mountain magic lightweight trailing arms

You could always get a lighter seat and when your girlfriend wants to come, swap in your current seat.

I removed 30 pounds off of my sled. I lost weight. That was the cheapest weight reduction I've done to my sled.
Seriously, I installed a Boss seat on my sled, man those seats are light weight.

i recommend a boss seat they cost bought 500 bux but u get the most weight reduction for the price and you can pick your seat design for the style of riding u do.

As long as you keep it a few inches away just like you would any hood it fine thats the idea of the textaline. Non flamable doesn't melt to easy, repels water, keeps the majority of the snow out.
