I can't stand it anymore, I need some more power out of my MXZ800. Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Here's my current setup:
2001 Ski-doo MXZ800
Cut Head
Boysen Power Reeds (petals only)
MBRP can
Clutch Kit by HRP
192 1.187" Sud Boys
What's next? Porting? Clutching changes? Big bore kit? New sled?

I heard, could be all BS...But you could put a big bore kit in and get it too 1000cc...Dunno if its true or not..but im sure that would spice it up!

Try this:
RK Tek Has developed an 827cc kit for the 800 Twin Engine. While we were not planning on big performance improvements in this little over-bore... we were soon proved WRONG! In side by side (stock 800 pipe) bench-mark testing against our RKT Mod 800 Engine Kit .. the 827 would pull 5 lengths on the hills and flats over our modified 800. This came as a HUGE surprise to us but the results do not lie. We were very pleased to say the least!!
This 827 kit is unlike all other big-bore kits. It uses your stock cylinders and does not require sleeving the cylinders. When you sleeve the stock cylinders.. transfer tunnel area is GREATLY diminished. This is not a good thing! One of the short-comings of the Series III engines is the transfer tunnel area... IT IS NOT LARGE ENOUGH! Proper porting can partially resolve this short-coming BUT once you sleeve the cylinder.. the tunnel area is greatly diminished and can NOT be restored. Aftermarket cylinders can address this issue but are quite expensive!
Our 827cc kit does not effect the transfer tunnel area. The stock cylinder is stripped of the plating, bored out to 83.5mm and then re-plated. It is a TOTAL sleeper!!
The piston used is a CAST ,Over the counter, Japanese Piston made by ART (The largest piston maker in the World).
This kit works extremely well with the OEM stock pipe but REALLY comes to life with the Decker Twin pipes.
The cost of the kit is as follows:
Strip/Bore/Re-Plate stock cylinders (2): $500.00/pair
83.5mm pistons with wrist pins and rings $275.00/pair
Custom RK Tek Billet Head: $360.00 complete
Custom Base gasket: $25.00
Modification of RAVE valves $80.00/pair
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL: $1240.00
Options-- Great addition but NOT required!
Full cylinder port: $500/pair
Decker Twin Pipes(ZX/REV) $625.00
Caged wrist pin bearings $30/set

Give you a heads up, you have the same sled as I, I noticed you only replaced the pedals. I had to replace my cage and pedals. I found the reed cage delaminating (rubber seperating from the metal) Inspect your cage, this can rob power if the pedal do not seat.
I bought V-Delta 3 with a 1/4" spacer. From what I learned, the reeds sit too far in the cylinder. Last year I was running 102-3 mph on stock reeds with 1.25" lug track and 142 (or 6?) 1.39" studs with Fasttrax Poly XL backers. I am 6'3" 255 pd with gear. After changing the reeds/cage, pulled the restrictor out of the top of my air box, I ran my sled last week against my friend. He has always walk away from me on all the lake runs. He runs a 2004 800HO with 1.0" lug and exact stud brand, count and backers but 1.25" length He is also running a clutch kit that is suppose to increase mid range to top end. He is 5' 8" at 230 pd with gear. After three passes on the lake, little to no snow, he was not able to pass me but only stay next to me or I next to him. His LED read 108 mph. We figure is we had another mile of lake we both would see 110-111 on the LED. My sled is completely stock except the V-Delta 3 and spacer.
Shop on line for the reeds. I found them for $270.

Do the Doo ----
Thanks for the info. I found the same thing when replacing the petals, the paint was starting to come one of the cages ..... I scraped most of it off and put it back in anyway. I'll check around on ebay or some other sites looking for the reeds.
Added info ---- I'm no longer running an airbox, got twin K&N's feeding the motor now. As for the track, I think it's a .88" .... could be a 1" though. I'm really happy with how the sled performs now ..... AC ZR800, stock F7, 03 REV 800 and lower are usual losers in a race, but you can always go faster.
