Does anyone know how to stop the carbs from flooding the cylinders after you shut the machine off? I have a 95 Formula 500 and I have herd that you can’t have the machine facing down hill when you shut off the motor because the carbs flood the cylinders. I had the thing sitting on my garage floor and it kept flooding the cylinders. I would pull the plugs, dry them off, clear the cylinder and replace them. The machine will only fire one time and the plugs are wet again. :bash: The only way I can get it started is to pull out the car ramps and get the front end up. Then it starts and runs good.

All I can really tell you is that it wasn't fixed by the 98. I try to park uphill and carry lots of plugs. you probably already know this but if you pin the throttle you will get better success at starting it. I hope someone else reads this that knows a little more... doc? Paul? Freezer? They usually help me out.

i have never flooded my 97 form500, but i was used to the primer setup from previous rotary valve motors. i park my sled any way/where i want, never shut off the gas lever or anything else.maybe this will work for you.

ice cold start = 5 primer shots.hold throttle full open with right hand.pull with left hand. motor should catch first or second pull. motor may then want to stall out after 5-7 seconds. be ready to give it one more primer shot while it is still running.babysit the throttle for about 30 seconds, then it should idle on its own.

warm start(sled already used at some point that same day) = 2 primer shots.throttle full open with right hand.pull with left.should catch first pull.

hot start(just been turned off) = no primer. throttle full open with rhand, pull w lhand.

seems simple enough, but if you had sleds with chokes before and are not used to the primer technique...it is EASY to flood the motor with too much use of the primer.if i am starting the sled after the summer shutdown, i open the cowl and watch the primer hose...i keep priming until i see that the gas has filled the tube and made it to the carb. it can take 10-15 shots for that to happen.

maybe this is a waste of time, maybe you already do this stuff, but if your motor floods for no reason, check your carb inlet needle, seat and float levels. i think the primer setup is way better than cable chokes, and i will be sad to lose it when i move to a newer sled.

You need to clean the carbs and check the needle/seat for a good seal...

If the needle & seat aren't completely closing gas will overfloiw the float bowl & into the motor.

i`m not sure if it is the same problem, but my 95 formula z keeps flooding too, but only on the idle. whmn it runs at hi-speed it `s ok , but as soon as you get off the throttle ,she bogs out(smells gas , so ...you know)any way i`ve been told many times to change needle & seat, &i guess this is my last resort as i`ve had carbs off twicewith no dirt anywhere to be found.anyway, sounds like a pretty common fix to a pretty common problemunder whatever the circumstance....guess that`s just Skidoo

I recently had the local Ski-doo shop run thru the carbs to the tune of 500 bucks (labor In Alaska kill you) and after that it run great. I did have to fix an ignition problem, but I do feel the shop inspected the needles and seats. If not they Suck.

Either you have some trash in the seat or they didn't pressure test....
