Any driveway contractors out there? Should I seal my driveway? (blacktop) Please give me reasons why I should/should'nt. Driveway about 5yrs. old. I always had concrete driveway so this is new to me. Guy who installed it says up to me, either way.

sealer's a good thing, makes it look nice again and fills the cracks and slows them down.

We have had a black top driveway for years. DEFINATELY seal it. It is like a road. The water will get into the cracks and freeze and push it apart making the cracks even deeper. And it will also keep moisture from seeping in during the spring and if it seeps in it will bust up from the ground below it being soft and drove on. We have that problem a little. It will last a lot longer if you seal it http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif *We seal it once a year, usually in the fall. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

I've always had blacktop and just a good sealant from your local hardware store will keep it black and keep away the cracks. *Do note that the stuff you put on it will take off the skin it dries on, which could be painfull.

Def lay it in the late summer early fall months. I know people who put it in the cracks and let it melt in for a few weeks then go back and seal the whole surface.
