For any one that happens to be interested in snowmobiling in Newfoundland the Lewis Hillbillies (http://lewishillbillies.com/) webite has all kinds of useful information, and an active forum where you can find out the latest scoop and get ideas on where to go. Snowmobiling in Newfounland really is a different expirience altogether.

I guess there just isn't that many from Newfoundland online here at SW. I looked at the online Member map and it only has like 8 members posted there.

Newfoundland Is the other option for flatlanders to try their hand at mountain sleding when the drive to the rockies is just to far..another Site that people might like to pop by with any questions about riding the west Coast Mountain ranges of newfoundland(or the rockies for that matter where some of our members are riding already this season )the social network for backcountry riders www.backcountryhillbillies.ning.com

Being lucky enough to live close to the mountains on the Northern peninsula of newfoundland, many of my friends and I spend alot of time exploring the backcountry and of course filming and taking pictures of our fun.We keep in touch when one goes away to work and of course email pics and vids of what The poor guy missed. One such buddy was mike Lavers. He messaged me one night that he was going to put together a short vid composed of clips he had and the ones we were all sending each other.Being the devil may care bunch we are and the type of the riding we love,he jokingly named our bunch......The BackCountry Hillbillies.....it stuck

Where the idea for this site came from

I love my snowmobile mags and read every one I see, but,it appeared to me Iwas hearing repeatedly "stay on the groomed trail its so much safer".What was the sport i loved becoming?A machine that its total essence revolved around allowing you to get out there, experience nature, and explore places you most times cant, being depicted by the main stream magazines as a trail commuter.
Statisticaly a freeway has been shown to be safer than a
two lane country road but wheres the joy in driving a freeway?Reading the signs!? wheres the wildlife the untracked powder, the drifts, the mountains?Somewhere along the way the heart of snowmobiling had been lost.Sure theres the other extreem of the sport, your "professional rider do not attempt"segment,Two thumbs up guys, but the main stream magazines seem to be pushing the party line. For those of you who like to take it off the beaten track, this sites dedicated to you.I think theres a little Backcountry Hillbilly in all of us.
